Hi, I'm having a little problem with converting an AVI to DVD. I have been following this guide http://www.afterdawn.com/guides/archive/convert_avi_to_dvd.cfm and everything has been going quite well until I've reached the fourth page of the guide (Convert the AVI to DVD/MPEG-2 - Bitrate settings). The video that I am converting is approximately 92 minutes, but when loaded into TMPGEnc Plus, (following the guide) it shows that the video turns out to be a whopping 318 minutes. This "error" makes it that I cannot lower the bitrate settings to be able to have the outcome of the converted file to fit into a DVDR. Anyone out there have this problem also? Please, any help/advice would be much appreciated. Thanks. -BlitzAce
I've been trying to lower the Average Video Bitrate. The lowest TMPGEnc will let me go to is 2000, (which will produce very low quality?) but still it isn't "lowered" enough to have an appropiate size to fit into a DVDR. And no, "Auto-select" is un-checked. Really though, I don't think it's a "bitrate settings" problem. My AVI file length is 93 minutes, but TMPGEnc shows that it is 318 minutes long (which of course, is way off). Hmm... Thanks anyways aldaco12. Oh, and I have these codecs installed: K-Lite Codec Pack, FFDShow, and VobSub. Hope this info is somewhat of a help to a solution...
Never seen a similar case. But try to make a MPEG-1 for VCD first. It is faster and you can check if the 'trick' work. Later, you'll make a M2V for DVD. This is the trick you could try to do: Create a 'mute AVI' by loading that AVI with VirtualDubMod and making Stream__Stream ist___Disable (OK). After , set Video___Direct Srteam Copy and Save (F7). Try to see if the 'mute mpeg' (MPG that will become the M2V of your DVD) will have the correct length. Does the movie remain 92'? - If not, I've no clue. - If so, you just need to make a correct sound (WAV, AC3..) to author the DVD with (M2V+WAV=DVD).
Ahh.. Yes! I've followed through in your "mini-guide" (thanks, simple enough). The process took quite some time but successfully, TMPGEnc now shows the correct play time of the video. I can now pick up where I left off on the guide I was following through earlier. What can I say, I'm just a newbie who's following guides.. . Thanks a bunch aldaco12. Much apprecitaed. *Bows to aldaco12*
I'm glad for you. A suggestion: use a proper sound encoder to re-encode separately the sound stream you had. You can Demux (don't 'save WAV') it with VirtualDubMod, in the same screen when you clicked 'disable' to make the 'mute AVI' I suggested you. After having the sound stream (I hope its length is correct: 92', not 318'), try playing with HeadAC3he. You should have good sound codecs (many are already used by HeadAC3he, like an AC3 decompressor), but you can make AC3, WAV, many types. I hope you can obtain a proper sound stream. Remember that a DVD uses a 48 kHz sampled sound, and (S)VCD use 44.1 kHz.
I had the same problem, solved it on mine by doing this.. In TMPGEnc click options - environmental setting. Click the VFAPI Plug-in tab and look for DirectShow on the list. Right click it and give it a higher priority, i put it top of the list. dont ask me why it worked, it just did.
