Hello. I am attempting to set up a network and I keep running into this problem. I am trying to network a desktop and a laptop. They share the same router (linksys). The desktop is not wirelessly connected to the router, however the laptop is connected via WiFi.

Now I HAVE successfully networked them both, however once I try to access another computers' files via the shared network it gives me a message saying. "Network is not accessible. You might not have permission to use this network resource. COntact the administrator of this server to find out if you have access permissions."

Anyone would can lead me towards the light, I greatly appreciate it. Thanks in advance.

I take it you have used the windows home networking manager to set up the network, and allowed shared files on both systems, and are running admin accounts on both of them ?

Let's not forget to shut off the Windows firewall...or allow the network sharing in your current firewalls.

I keep forgetting that windows firewall... Guess i'm the only person that ripped it out of his XP.
And indeed, make sure your firewalls allow the network traffic.
