Hello everyone! I hope I'm posting in the right place. I’m hoping to get some ideas on enhancing video quality. Long story short, I installed an outdoor security camera system around my home after an attempted break in. The other day my neighbor’s house was broken into. Unbeknownst to the burglar my neighbor was home at the time and she scared him away. He ran out the front door through my yard and around my house and my cameras captured him. The police have reviewed my recording and have asked for a copy but I’d like to enhance the quality of it because it’s just not quite sharp enough to take a snapshot that the police can use to look for him. I copied it from my DVR directly to my DVD recorder and I’ve taken snap shots but I need to be able to either enhance the video itself or the snapshots. Anyone have any ideas or am I out of luck? This kid has been terrorizing our neighborhood with MULTIPLE break ins, all within a two block radius so I’m really trying everything I can to catch him. Thank you!
Here is a link to some photos so you can see the quality I'm dealing with.

Well it doesn"t look Like he Got away with much....There are No stereo"s in his hands...lol

From Looking at the Images I do not see of any ways to Improove them to a degree that would make the Person in the Pictures more Recognizeable....

I ran the Photos through a Number of Image enhanceing Filters and I couldn"t get it to Look that much better...If the Pictures were Much Higher Resolution then it might be possible......

You can Try it in "Adobe Photoshop" or "Corel Paint Shop Pro v10.0" to clean up the Image...maybe you will have better luck than i did...

    Cheers

I'd take the original copy (if possible) to the Police ... your tax money should have helped them purchase equiptment designed to clarify/enhance your images ... Make a detective earn his paycheck

Thanks guys - I was afraid I was kind of out of luck with it. I just figured I'd ask some folks who knew more than I did about it. I guess I'll just do like catfreak said and let the police take it from here.
No he didn't get anything that time but one week after my alarm scared him away from breaking into my house (at the cost of a complete door and door frame) he broke into these same peoples house through the same window, ransacked it and did steal some things. Guess he went back for more. It just bugs me he's getting away with it and I was so close to stopping it. I've already made changes to my system to increase the video quality so I shouldn't have this problem again.

    Thanks again everyone!

    What a moron, broad daylight.

I would say if you want good results, set up a pill box in the front yard and mount one of these babies.

This way, when you are through with him, you can get close up digital pics which'll come out nice and clear for the police to utilize.

Curious. What camera (system) do you use for around your home (ie. the ones that took that video) ?

I've been thinking about a CCTV setup for "minding" the house while I and my family are gone, or even home.

I use a Sentinel DVR and Swann Bulldog camera's that I purchased from Fry's. The cameras are really great - the problem with mine is I bought too long of extension cables for the cameras. I have 160' extension cables when I only needed about 25' so the signal loss is why the quality is so bad. The camera's come with I'm guessing 30' built in so 190' of cable is just too much. We're actually going to Fry's tomorrow to buy shorter cables. The cameras have night vision too up to I believe 35' or so. With the Sentinel DVR it's motion activated and you set your grid to block out what you don't want to set off the motion sensor. We love the system and am currently just fine tuning it to our needs.....too bad we hadn't fine tuned it when we got this mental midget on camera. :)
