new version DSi was release around April 09, in Europe/USA, and uses the current cartridge games, so I would think its going to be few years before Nintendo release a newer DS comsole with a new cart. format. the number of ds games is 4248, i think thats alot :~

I wouldn't worry about it, the NDS isn't going anywhere any times soon. Nintendo is good about extending the life of their handhelds. Plus if you get a fash card like the Ace Kard 2i you can breath some serious new life into a DS with homebrew, emulation, movie play back, mp3s and backups.

Getting a flash card is the only reason why I'd get a Ds haha

just to let you know, you can get some good deals on the ds at the moment if you shop around.
we also sell refurbished DS's in our shop. the casing and screens get changed, and shipped in its own packaging just like a new item.
we even have some in pretty cool cases like the dragon ball z case.
hace a look in our shop here edited by ddp for more info.
priced at £76.00 (plus 45p for postage) the price is a little higher than what you will pay in a game shop for a second hand unit, but it looks new, and makes a great gift.
