    Hello,

I am trying to download torrents but whenever I try to open them they open as Winamp files (and nothing happens). Whenever I try to save them and then open them so that they download as torrents, they once again open as Winamp files.

Is there a way I can change any settings so that I can download torrent files?

When you download the torrent, make sure you choose "Open with" and click browse, if your using Azereus, you want it to open with Azereus, so browse and navigate to Azereus and make the selection.

Azereus will then launch and you can download your torrent, you must've accidently choose for them to be opened with WimAmp before.

Thanks, but when I click on it to download it either offers me the "open" option (which automatically opens the file as a Winamp one) or the "save" option (which saves the file as if it was a Winamp file even if I specify that it should be saved as a torrent). I tried the "open with" option afterwards and although Azureus tries to open it and these are files with hundreds of seeders, it just doesn't open. This is weird, because I hadn't had any problems like this until yesterday, when I reinstalled my McAfee (is there anything in its settings that I could change?)

try using another client such as utorrent or bit torrent to see if it is definitely the torrents and not the program which you have :)

You might want to try downloading another torrent file and see if the same result happens. I have seen that some "torrent" pranksters can make a corrupt torrent file which opens with winamp ( or whatever your main video / sound ) software.

If this happens with all "torrent" files, than you should reinstall your software. Probably mcafee might have "reset" some of the mime types associated with your operating system. Reinstalling your torrent client will normally fix this problem.

If it still is continuing to happen after reinstalling your software... than you have a larger problem. You might want to specify your OS so we can further assist you.

What the hell are you talking about a torrent taht opens w/ a media player?

It'll open with whatever you have your file associations set...easy to change by holding shift and right clicking the d/led torrent and choosing "open with", then picking the application and choosing "always open with this...".

The only way I can think that a torrent would open w/ media player would be if you changed your association somehow, ran a virus that did it for you (that wouldn't be in the torrent file itself, it'd be in something you downloaded), or that it's called something like game.torrent.mp3 but you have your "show file extentions for known file types" turned to OFF, so it looks like a .torrent but is really an mp3.
