I have 2 computers at home one is my Benq laptop and the other a dell desktop both run pentium 4. Both PCs have different internet connections. My laptop has a wireless connection with a 1024K/128K connection. My dell pc has an ADSL 512k connection. Both have different ISPs. My problem is for some reason when i use my laptop to download torrents i can only max at 35KB/s no matter what. I have tried free torrent sites and also sites where you need to register. But i still get the same results. This problem only occurs on my laptop. I have no problems what so ever downloading torrents with my dell 512k connection i can max at 65KB/s. At first i thought maybe it was just my 1024k connection isp on my laptop causing the problem, i thought they might be throttling peer to peer downloads but i went to my isps forum and several customers say they can download at the max. So i connected my laptop to my 512k connection but i am still getting the same problems. Only maxing at 35KB/s no matter what. So i reconnected my 512k connection back to my desktop and i tried downloading the exact same torrents from the same sites with my dell desktop and i was able to max out my connection. So i can't figure out what the problem is. I have the exact same settings on both my bitcomet clients. I can download from websites fine. It's just when i download torrents on my laptop the problems occur. My laptop is only 3wks old. The only differnce i can think of is that my laptop has XP SP2 and uses centrino 1.6ghz and my desktop has XP PRO with a pentium 4 1.8ghz. But i have tried using XP PRO on my laptop and i still get the same results. I have no router. I have done virus/spyware scans and all came back negative. I have set my upload to 15KB/s. The only firewall i have is SP2 where i have forwarded ports. Even if i turn off my firewall i can still only get 35KB/s. I have even tried using Azureus, but still same problems. Would someone be able to help me figure out what is wrong? Is it my bitcomet settings? My internet settings? Any help will be greatly appreciated. Thanks.
Thanks for the reply. I followed every step of your guide and i am still getting the same problem. No matter what torrent i download and no matter how many seeders there are i am still maxing at 35KB/s. When i watch the torrents i can basically see the speed climbing up but once it reaches 35KB/s it will just stay there or just below that speed. I have contacted my ISP about this and they ran tests and concluded that my connection is perfect and i should be able to download at about 100KB/s more or less. They insist that they are not blocking or throttling any sites or peer to peer. I even went to my ISPs official and unofficial forums and many users on the same connection as me say they can download torrents at over a 100KB/s. So i can't figure out why i can't do the same. No matter what i download whether a torrent or not. At one point i managed to download a file where there was 80 seeders and only 5 leechers but still only maxed at 35KB/s. Are there any other suggestions to try and solve my problem?
I am using port 21997. My speed hasn't changed that much, but it has gotten a little faster. right now from time time my speed will go up to 40KB/s but it is still generally averaginh between 30-35Kb/s when i download torrents. But it's still slow for my connection (1024k/128k). No i didn't change RWIN, I'm not sure if i need to. Would you be able to tell me if i do? This is a link to my results http://ttester.broadbandreports.com...ce=wireless&speed=1024&os=winXP&via=raspppoe. thanks.
Yes, follow all these steps, as they are explained on the website. Notes and recommendations: Enable TCP timestamping (FAQ #706) for 'long fat' (high ping) pipes Change MTU to 1492 (FAQ #703) Choose RWIN between 9800 and 26600 (FAQ #586)
I followed all the instructions and made the changes but there still isn't any change. In fact it seems like my connection has gotten slower, but it could just be a coincedence. Is there anything else i can do?
