I have these to devices connected via HDMI/dvi1. most times my tv cant even see the hd player (no signal) sometimes I can get them to work after shutting them down several times. but even than the audio wont play. I have even tried composite video, S-video, and component video all with the same outcome. video and no audio. Help
Are you saying that your tv has a dvi input and you are using an hdmi to dvi cord? If so no audio is transfered through dvi so you would have to connect the audio separately.
well my samsung lcd 47" has an hdmi/dvi connection on the back. so the hdmi cable from the hd dvd player is comnnected through that/hdmi. but I do think it has something to do with my tv's connection on the back since it says hdmi/dvi also I have tried to hook it up componet and red/white/yellow but no audio. I'm going to send it back to toshiba. they offered to fix it.
Component is video only, not audio, you will have to run the audio separately using the red and white connecters or the optical output. You probley need the latest firmware update tho.
I have a Vizio 47" LCD TV and both the Toshiba A20 (for HS-DVDs) and a PS3 (for Blu-ray) players. Since the TV only has 2 HDMI inputs, and I've dedicated one to the Time Warmer Digital DVR Cable box, I end up switching the other HDMI input between the A20 and the PS3. I tried a HDMI splitter, however, the PS3 doesn't like splitters... Anyway, I've noticed that what I call the "HDMI Handshake" goes 100% of the time with the PS3 - i.e. the TV recognizes the PS3 for Blu-ray DVDs. The A20 is another story. Sometimes the TV successfully does the "handshake" with the player, sometimes not, failure resulting in a blue screen. I seem to have the best luck if I have the TV "warmed up" - i.e on for about 5 minutes before I turn on the A20. Also, I've discovered through trial and error, that 100% of the time, if I turn off the A20 after it fails the "handshake", then turn the A20 back on again, the "handshake" is successful and I can watch my HD-DVD movie. So my question is ... Why do we have to put up with this HDMI "handshake" BS? Doesn't the MPAA realize that this kind of stuff is turning off Hi-Def player sales for the average Joe-six pack type consumer who doesn't understand whole bizarre Hi-Def scene?
