Ive never had a surround sound system before and just want a question answered first. Where do the cables for the surround speakers go. Say I have a TV, Xbox and Playstation and I want them all to have the surround sound. Do I plug the cables into the TV or switch them round all the time? And what are most speakers supported by. Will a simple nail or hook in the wall be enough? Thanks heaps!
you need a surround sound receiver/amplifier in order to utilize all your surround speakers...you can't just plug them into the TV. I recommend Onkyo, they are a great brand and you can get a lower-end receiver for pretty cheap. Connect your audio devices to the receiver, then you can hook up the surround sound speakers to it. About mounting speakers, just make sure you screw or nail into a stud in the wall to support the speaker. I would recommend doing some audio tests and move the speakers around so you can find the optimum placement before you screw them into the wall.
Well I'm not sure what type of reciever I need to get. I cant find any Australian recievers on ebay. Will the NTSC receivers even work with my PAL xbox,tv and DVD player. There arent any Australian ones on ebay and I dont really want to go and buy one from a store If it will cost me AU$200-300. The only reason I bought the speakers is because they were cheap. Will a 4-Way Audio/Video Selector do the same job? Thanks
these speakers should work by themselves as a surround sound system, it has an amp built into the sub for all the speakers. However, it does not say what type of connections that this system can receive. If it can take digital in, either coaxial or optical, then use that. Your DVD Player and XBOX should have digital outs. A pal TV won't matter, because you're just taking the audio out from it into a speaker system. One other thing though is that this speaker system will only have one maybe two inputs, so if you plan on connecting your TV, DVD Player, and XBOX to it, you will need a audio selector, but those will only be for a two channel audio switcher. they do make digital optical switchers, so maybe you can get one of those. I got one cheap at an electronics store for $15. Let me know if you need any help or have any more questions...
Ok, thanks heaps. Its a relief I wont have to spen another +$200. Yes the TV has digital out, and I think the Xbox came with an attachment for that as well, I remember reading somewhere that I need extra cables for the Xbox as well but that doesnt matter.
