Just found this site which seems great, so bear with me cos l'm totally new (and confused) with all this burning stuff! So, l've just downloaded two .avi movies, one in one file and the other in two files, and l want to burn them to dvd-r disks so that l can play them on a standard dvd player. It appears that these need to be converted and then burned. Is this so? What is the best (preferably one) package or packages to do this? There just seems to be so many around that l want your advice as to what to use and do. Thanks very much.
Hello Fagbutt. Definitely you have to burn the data in the first place. The best burner as far as I know is Nero .Go for the latest version, its 7.There you will get the options for burning your movie files to a DVD R .From there you have to select the option for burning the movie files in DVD movie format ,that will eventually let you play your movies in a normal DVD player.Make sure you do not burn your filed as a data ,b'coz in that case you wont be able to play those files in a normal DVD player, but only in your system. Hope this information is useful for you. Thanks.
Thanks very much Harry. Will go and check out Nero as you suggest and give it a whirl. Thanks again for your prompt reply.
Yes you need to convert them and Nero Vision Express will allow you to convert them to Video Compliant files. After the conversion if your file is the correct size for a single layer DVD you can burn if it is not you will need to compress it to fit, also if you dl two files for a movie these will need to be joined in order to make a complete movie, as you are going to get two files. Here are a couple of guides that will show you basics of NVE and avi conversion. http://home.comcast.net/~bbmayo/NVE Basics.pdf Here is another guide with directions to software that will also show you how to convert/compress/ burn using free software. http://home.comcast.net/~bbmayo/DivXtoDVD.pdf Here is a guide showing how to join a movie with Shrink, it can also be done in Nero. http://home.comcast.net/~bbmayo/Making a episode DVD with DVD Shrink.pdf
Thanks Arniebear. Both you and Harry2006 have now answered my questions so l will look at all the sites you list and will give Nero a whirl.
hey im pretty new to burning also.. and i have basically the same question as fagbutt except how do i burn my avi movies to dvd+r? i have nero... but i just cant figure out how.. it burned alright to a dvd-r.. but when i tried dvd+r, it had errors. i have avi movies and was wondering how do i burn them to a dvd+r using nero. help! thanks
hello allywally, U can use Nero Vision, go to nero startsmart and select nero vision, u can follow the guide in Arniebear's post, it is the very first link in his post, good luck.
Hello Fagbutt N Arnie.I think you two must have solved your problems by now.If you are still facing any prob, do let us know. Thanks.
hey 300bowler thanks i followed ur instructions but now im at another dead end. so after i converted the movie using NVE do i just go to Make a new Video Dvd on my Nero Smart Start and just add the files there? and then just burn it? or is there another way?
If you have converted your file to Video Compliant, meaning it has the correct strucure of IFO, BUP and VTS files and the size is 4.3g or under all you have to do is burn your file. If the file is over 4.3g you then need to use a program to compress, Nero Recode or DVD Shrink will do this and then you can burn it.
hello allywally, here is a guide for Nero Burning ROM, http://home.comcast.net/~bbmayo/burn with nero.pdf or u can use Nero Express and select Video/pictures, then select DVD-Video files, then find the folder u created with Vision and add all the files in that folder.
Hello Fag and Arnie. I think 300Bow's link is a pretty good one. There is one more option, you can use the help file provided with Nero itself instead of searching it somewhere else.Though you will get a lot of good information but why to take so much pain if its already available. Hope you make use of the help file.Thanks.
