Hi, this may be in the wrong place, if it is i apologize.

    My question is this:

What is the best program or way to transcode .avi .mp4 .rmvb
or any other format into dvd format so i can burn it and it will play on AVY DVD player.

I can burn movies just fine now but i have issues with the disc not working on some dvd players, so how can i insure it will?

You cannot have a solution to burn DVDs that will play on ANY DVD player. For example, you'll probably never be able to make a DVD play on a broken player.

However, to ensure playability on most players, make sure you use good quality discs, and your DVD firmware is up to date, don't burn too fast. I would also suggest using DVD+R media and booktype to DVD-ROM(if your DVD drive supports that) for greater compatibility.

don't agree.. every standalone player supports -r disks.. +disks are not seen by about 30% no matter how the bitsetting is. also older players have HUGE problems with the 16x disks.. either + or - makes no difference..

My suggestion (as a pirate for gain) is to use -r disks of a reputable brand.. no less than samsung or ridata.. and the 8x type burned at 4x

That will not guarantee 100% playability on all hardware.. but I probably get 1 or 2 out of a few hundred a month returned as no go. Those I replace with usually a different disk brand.. I know who has the dodgy older players and always run a couple of different branded and +disks specially for them ;)

I'm not going to disagree with that, however, a while back(3-4 years) I retired a player(DVD/VCR combo) that refused to play any burned straight DVD+R or DVD-R. It only played DVD+R booktyped to DVD-Rom. Since then I never bought a DVD-R, and never had a problem again; until I have a problem playing DVD+R booktyped, no amount of theory will convince me otherwise.

For everybody else, they can read left and right, experiment, and make up their own mind.

so they will work better simply by burning at a slower speed like 4x?

what im doin now is usin Winavi video converter to transcode then i use either dvd shrink or dvdfab or nero to burn them but nero is so slow so i try to not use it.

plus im not familiar with book type, whats book type?

If you convert with Winavi, then using Nero or DVD Shrink is a waste of time, unnecessary step. Use ImgBurn to burn to disc.
