Hey everybody! I am quick to criticize when software stinks on ice, so I'm going to be just as quick to say when one is FABULOUS! First to the "Stinks on ice!" software. I download quite a bit of .avi, Xvid and Divx movies, so I went looking for a good converter so I could burn to DVD. I bought WinAVI, I bought several others that say they convert quickly and well. Don't believe the hype! of the 4 programs I bought (at $40 or more each)...NOT A SINGLE ONE OF THEM WORKED1 I am especially bitter over WinAVI. While looking online one evening in one of the Afterdawn Guides, I came across a reference to "DIVX TO DVD" which is now "ConvertX" I think as a pay version...again onother $40. But wait! The Guide suggested that I download and try the previous FREE version, called "Divx to DVD". Does EXACTLY what the pay version does, but its FREE. I can't say enough KUDOS for this program. I tell it where the file is I want to convert, I tell it where I want the converted to DVD files to go, and I hit "convert". Its that simple. Conversions are exceptionally clear (its seems to even enhance the quality of the final DVD files), and it does it quickly and efficiently. and lest you forget, IT'S FREE! I chalked up my $165 expenditure on stinkers such as WinAVI to experience, uninstalled and shredded the files and have moved on. DIVX TO DVD Forever!!

But i know winavi is just for $29.95,and yes,its trial version is free all time, why did you pay for so much more? And why all converters can't work for you? Have you tried to play avi files on your pc to see if they aren't broken? Another, did you install the right codec?

Let me break this down for you. I am fairly computer literate. I tested the full functionality of each of the "converters" that I purchased. All of them converted files with varying degrees of speed and end result. WinAVI converted the files, then hid them. It did not create a working storage file. It created a file it called WinAVI, but when I opened it, presto! the "converted" files were not there! And I had to do a file search in Explorer to even find the WinAVI file!---so I repeat, it stinks on ice!. I mention it separatedly because it's supposed to be the best...yeah right. The other three also converted, but had other annoying minor issues. When I installed DivX to DVD (not the current pay version ConvertX) but the pre ConvertX version I think it was 0.5.3.9 (I'll be more specific later if anyone wants to download it, I'm at work now so not at my computer), it was such a breath of fresh air..literaly 3 clicks and it's done. And whenit's done it immediately shows you the converted VideoTS file IN ITS LOCATION ON YOUR HARD DRIVE. And it's 100% free.

But I think if you select the output directory, you will find the converted files there. And I really don't know how you get the converted file named WinAVI.

NOW do you see why I say it "stinks on ice"? Of course I selected (designated) an output directory. What I can't seem to make you understand is that the program IGNORED the directory I selected and sent the "converted files into a black hole! (assuming they were actually converted) I don't know WHY it did it either, but trust me IT DID!----that's why it STINKS ON ICE! It did what it is not supposed to do! I contacted WinAVI Support immediately and never got even a courtesy reply...again yet another reason why it goes into my "stinkers" file. Maybe I got a rogue copy or something, I don't know...but I do know that it took me less time to download, install, and convert two full length movies using DivX to DVD Converter (a freeware program) with exceptional clarity, than it took me to fake convert a single movie with the program that stole $30 from me (WinAVI).

Absolutely. I'm at work now (it's 3:30 EST) here, but as soon as I get home, if you send me your email address, I'll either send you the link or the .exe file. Send your email address to i'manidiot.com edited by ddp and I'll send it promptly. The EXACT same program is now available from VSO as "DivXToDVD" but it was so wildly successful as freeware, it's now $29.99 online from VSO. I'll send you the free program or the link to where I got it. I've checked it with SpySweeper, AVG, PC Cillin and SpyBot S&Destroy...it's completely clean and so fabulous, I can't stand it! In your email, be sure to entitle it 'DivX' so my spam program (by the way I've also tested a ton of them and I settled on the free version of "Mailwasher" it's also fabulous, and worth the $40 for the full version, but the free version does everything you could want)--doesn't attack it.

I can't recall my tracks on how I got it as I was up late one night still upset...no, PO'd at WINAVI for it's abject failure, clicking through Google and found it. The good news is I capture the .EXE file for any program I add to my computer, so as with several others who have asked since my last thread, if you send me an email at i'manidiot.com edited by ddp, I would be pleased to send you the self install file. Be sure to make the subject of your email "DivX Converter" so my spam program won't attack the file. I'll respond promptly because I'm so "stoked" on this program I want everybody to benefit from it.

Does anyone have a patch or a licence # for the free ConvertxtoDVD program. I would really appreciate the help. The program works great just the anoying box in the center of the screen trying to get you to buy the program.

If you don't plan to buy ConvertXtoDVD, use the free DivxtoDVD. There are only a few differences such as menu and subtitle support. Asking for a license here will get you a lifetime ban.
