Hello: I have the following problem when recording VHS tapes and converting them to DVD-R. To start with, I'm using an ATI TV Wonder Pro card to encode VHS tapes to Mpeg2/720x480/44khz. If I use the default VBR I have no problems but end up with large files which take forever to transcode to MpegDVD in Nero VisionExpress 3. If I lower the bitrate using the TV Wonder Pro software, so that it fits onto a standard DVD-R ( 4.3GB ) I have no problems with that either. That is as long as I don't have to use VisionExpress to cut out any commercials! If I use VisionExpress to cut out commercials, the resulting DVD files still contain the commercials and has instead cut out other footage. If you're asking why I lower the VBR, it is because transcoding takes 1/5th the time as oposed to transcoding Mpeg video which is greater then 4.3GB. My system contains the following hardware: AMD Barton Mobile 2500 ( running 100% stable at 2300Mhz and 400FSB) 768MB PC3200 ATI TV Wonder Pro SB Live Value Windows 98 SE blah blah blah Is this a known VisionExpress problem? TIA
No suggestions other than to comment I tried to edit out some bits of video using Nero Vision Express 3 last night for the first time and had exactly the same problem (ie it keeps the bit you want to remove and deletes the good stuff)!
I didn't find a solution to the problem however, I did find a workaround. I simply cut out the commercials in NeroVision3 and use SmartEncoding to create DVD-9 video. Once that is done, I use DVDShrink to get the video to fit onto a 4.3GB DVD.
I had tried Nero I had tried Roxio and all of them will pass through an unreasonable and time consuming quality loss. Finally I run into Adobe Encore DVD and I transfer every day VHS to DVD with easily using AiwRadeon(7200 chipset,32Mb) in mpeg2 format. No need for terrible transcoding operations.Just the time to capture the tape into HD,create a custom menu or not and burn it into DVD.
