I have an HD laptop that will not fully boot and I would like to save important Data before I send it to be fixed and transfer to an external hard drive. Circuit City wants $150 to do this. I know I'm a jerk for not backing up all along, but now I have learned my lesson. Any suggestions
If you want to save the partition you have on the laptop "as is", in case you want to reinstall it later on, and try to fix it. you'll need drive imaging software. This will make an exact copy of your hard drive including the boot information. The image backup can later be "mounted" and individual files copied from the image. paragon drive backup recovery cd demo (this will bootup your computer so you can see if it will recognize your hard drive and external drive) It's one of the least expensive http://download.paragon-software.com/demo/dcper_recovery_cd_demo.exe free drive imaging backup software http://www.runtime.org/dixml.htm If your windows wont boot up, have you tried the chkdsk\f command to see if that can fix it? http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;Q315265
