I have two computers and would like to transfer the files from my old hard drive to the new one. Can anybody give me some insight on the easiest way to go about doing this? I don't want to add this hard drive to the new pc...I just want everything from it.

    Thanks in advance!

The only 3 ways is add it temp as a slave to the new pc and make sure that the boot order in the bios is set to boot from the new drive not the old one. Or buy a external case and slap the drive in that. Third way is network the new and old pc together and share the files. If it was me I would yank the cover off and slap the old in a slave till the transfer is done.

Also they do make just usb adapters so you can hook a ide drive up to a usb port without a external case. But I wasnt happy bout the speed personally. So case or slave is how I would go.:>

Thanks for the help...both of you. I didn't mention this in the 1st post, but I can't keep the old hd connected to the new pc because I [bold]have[/bold] to give it to my wife! So, with that, I'll either set up a network or put it in as slave just to transfer.

Once again, thanks for the help!

have you considered just adding the old HD to your comp and getting a new fresh one for your wife that way all files are intact and your wife gets a fresh clean drive, if not trying networking and mirror copying the existing files to your new one or external HD
    hope it works out
