I want to transfer movies and music from my macbook to my dell pc via ethernet cable. I plugged the ethernet cable into the macbook and into the pc but nothing pops up to tell me what to do.

Can someone please give me detailed instructions on how to do this and if I need to be connected to the internet.

I really dont know and everytime I post in this forum I get little or no help. I dont understand why. I thought thats what this place was for.

That may be because yopu don't give enough information.. such as.. What OS is the dell running (it could be anything from solaris , xp.. freeBSD, some flavour of linux, skyos or anything) without that little bit of information we are flailing about in the dark!

As somebody with a mac you should know to google everything first.. you probably need to install samba to share with a windows box ;)

I cannot help you with mac networking but you cannot use a standard ethernet cable. You are going to need a "crossover" cable, to directly connect two computers without the use of a hub, switch, or router.
