I'm having the same problem as Dallas. I have the latest versions of AnyDVD and CloneDVD and when I try to rip to the hard drive I have the "device not ready" error. I've tried this on my Sony and my Lite-On burners.
No, my knowledge on optical drives is quite out of date now. However i can tell you that it's wise to have more than one optical drive, not all are equal. I have a few different makes of opticals, an ancient LG 4480B DVD-Rom/combo drive that can read virtually anything, an LG 4167B burner, 2 LG H66N burners and a few Benq DW1650 burners. The 4480B is by far the best ripper, it has the most success, though now and again a disc comes along (both brand new and old discs) that won't read on one drive but won't read on another. I very rarely power on the DW1650's these days (the other drives are sufficient) so basically i can rip anything out there with a combination of the other 3 drive makes.
mattbatb, sounds like the problem is the one DVD player. a couple things you might try 1. use Tayio Yuden media 2. burn at 8x max 3. don't burn right the the edge of the DVD 4. replace the DVD player
I did it!! I went way back to ripit4me and the system went through the motion and went right into dvdshrink with no errors and burned to dvd.
could be your dvd player in your room just doesn't work well with the particular brand of media you are using. In the past i had been given a bunch of TDK dvd-r and they were fine on any dvd player except the one at work, changed back to Verb's and have never had a problem.. only with those TDK's.
I just downloaded the new Elaborate Bytes : Clone DVD and it ripped/backed up this DVD with no issues .. Cheers
I am somewhat confused at how some are using anydvd, clone, along with a bunch of other programs together, all you need is clone anydvd, why are some people using others combined with those two which is all you need, if you are using others to combine with anydvd that I understand, but not if you are using clone and anydvd. The other fellow says clone does not recognize his drive, make sure you assign your drive or drives, if you don't know how, click on browse on clone, make sure you have the movie dvd in your drive, after browse click on my computer, there you will see the name of the movie, click on that an you will now be assigned. I have both my drives assigned to it, F my reader, E my writer, I eliminate all the crap, let the reader read and the writer write, it takes a couple clicks it reads and writes on it's own, nothing more to do till it's over.
what program did you use to remove protection? You had to have another program running to remove the protection, anydvd perhaps?
The best method to use is what has been mentioned previously by several posters: To Rip to Hard Drive, use DVDFab v6.0.7.0 Preview: off Pathplayer: off Use the Main Movie mode and select #47 (I chose no sub picture) Rip the movie to your hard drive. You can then burn to DVD with Nero and the movie will play through flawlessly. ( I suggest burning no faster than 8x) There are no special features on the DVD so you lose nothing but the menu using this method. All chapters are intact. D
so, just out of curiosity what makes this better than simply using anydvd and clonedvd together? I think you will notice that whatever works for each person is what they think is "the best".. even if it uses 6 different programs and 10 different steps.
The "best" method for me personally would be to use less programs thus producing less confusion. What worked for me also was simply using DVDFab 6.0.7.0, disable pathplayer. Movie Only, Title 47, then burned with IMGburn. Done. Watched the backup copy last night and it looked and sounded great!
Just viewed my backup(Menus included), and it looks as stunning as the original...Since the menus take up hardly any space at all. Simply an anydvd rip, Re-builder CCE encode, and burn. Done Virtually zero confusion. Rip, encode, burn. Doesn't get any easier than that LOL! And in my humble opinion, that's certainly better than DvdFabs trans-coding engine. Though don't get me wrong. Shrink and Fab are fine in most cases. Encoders are simply a little better. Given the HDTV's viewing and up-scaling technologies, I've found that CCE encoder does at least a slightly better job...
"Best" is a word that can cause scrutiny. anyDVD does a fine job with this one as well. I did it both ways last night just for confirmation. Also, turning the preview off is an unnecessary step.
If I am not "Wrong Again" : The Best Method to use is: The one that get the job done easily and is "free"
if you have had no problems backing up in the past, i doubt it is your drive, but it could possibly be a bad press on the original. With the slysoft package it should work. Keep in mind it would rip the video files fine to the hard drive using anydvd as the ripper but would not back up as an .iso file. try ripping with anydvd first before including clone dvd
I hardly think best has anything to do with the price of the programs. Many times the free programs can not do what the paid for programs can. I think you should say the cheapest method if you want to be accurate. For the record I own both AnyDVD and Fab.
