so here is what i want to do i want to install ubuntu 9.04 on my macbook 5.1 (unibody macbook) i already have mac osx 10.5.7 and windows-7 installed on my hard drive (500gb HD) 200gb for windows 300gb for mac i would like to take 10-20gb (with no swap partiton just root ) out of the mac partition to install ubuntu on without damaging Partitions or installations of current systems

on my old macbook i had it triple booted but i had a blank hd and reformated it into 3 partitions then installed after ubuntu caused and error that rendered windows unbootable (something like hal.dll was missing) and it made disc utility in mac tweak out causing it to not be able to fix partitions

any guides would be helpfull all i could find was basically reformat and start from scratch which is NOT an option for me

i would like to have linux again but i dont want that huge of an issue just to install it

    Thanks

Windows 7 will probably stop working for you soon, everything so far released are time limited demos. Why not just be preemptive and nuke the Windows partition?

Head hurts too much to give a real answer, and I've no experience with or desire to learn about crApple, sorry.

the only reason i want to keep windows is for games that will only run on windows and not in linux or on mac otherwise i would just nuke it (and yes i know its a timed beta but i will keep it anyway for now) and mac im defenatly keeping as its my primary OS

Ferget about window7 and grab an XP from somewhere. it will play ur games as well as the rest of them (and less hassle too).

I would also forget about Ubuntu and install Debian Lenny on the laptop, far more stable, customisable and less prone to crashing like n00b

^ ^ windows 7 is so beautiful though > < specially when is fixed to run unlimited anyway i recomend to wait for the final WIn7 release. but still if you don't want to wait i have the thing just for you

I was crazy enough to try the same thing and i accomplished it
and you certainly don't need to delete none of your partitions
the only difference is i used a different distro sorry i think nubuntu is lame.
anyway.. i think you will be able to make it work i mean if i could do it then so can you

Hate to break it to you, but Backtrack 4 is based on Ubuntu. Guess you're going to have to find a new script kiddie distro...

wow i have this going for a while and nothing i go to vegas for 3 days come back and its a war on distributions and what there based off of

My opinion about windows-7 is it looks nice but its just windows vista with less features a new theme and compatibility problems about the only thing i do like really is the taskbar which is a takeoff of the macintosh dock and all i use it for is the games that i have
