Hi, Thanks for your response. I have done in the past but it never worked. I have F-SECURE. Is AVG 7 better. Do I have to unstall the F-SECURE and download the AVG instead? Hope to hear from you again soon.
i prefer avg but everybody has their own opinion on best anti virus. there is a thread here about antivirus programs here if you want to read thru it. might not have to uninstall f-secure but not certain, can disable it if you want
I have recently been infected with the same virus so will try the cure as suggested, i assume that any one of those links will work. will the desktop return to normal or do i need to do anything else ? any help gratefully received. Thanks
depends on what the virus does & the after effects. here is link to do online virus scan http://housecall.trendmicro.com/

Please help!!! I have the smitfraud trojan screen but also I keep getting a message box saying Windows Explorer has encountered a problem and must shut down. When this box arrives my pc refuses to work and then reboots. This even happens in safe mode. I have Norton AV which has just leisurely watched this thing ruin my day and now it wont run so that I can get rid of it! Can anyone tell me what's going on?

Alright, so here's something that should help all of you. Many say that by downloading Kaspersky or McAfee, all of your problems will be solved. Well that wasn't the case with me, however I did find out how good Kaspersky anti-virus really is. It's a great program but doesn't help you get rid of this smitfraud. But you can find this anti-virus on www.download.com TO GET RID OF THIS VIRUS you need [bold]Xoftspy[/bold]. Now the trial program only allows you to scan for viruses and spyware and nothing more. You'll need a key by either purchasing the program or downloading it using peer-to-peer programs (i.e. Kazaa) But I got my copy of the program and it really is worth your money. It's an awesome program and it will get rid of all the garbage from your computer.
I also have this Trojan on my computer. It was probably my fault for forgetting to turn on the WEP security settings for my wireless net adapter for my laptop. I do have McAfee software but am not sure in what capacity. It was on my computer with XP when I bought the laptop. I've heard that this is mainly a joke program and is not an insanley dangerous one , at least thats what Ive been reading latley. I tried going into safe mode and deleting stuff that looks obviously not what Ive put on my computer like bogus favourites and such. Something named PSGuard got on my pc and was part of this Trojan , I deleted it and anything related to it but still nothing. There is also the is one file what won't even budge when I try to delete it. A message pops up and says that another person or program/s is using it. Bizzare. What Id like to know is , can I even get on the internet whith the way my screen is just all blue with that error message?? Can I get on the internet in safe mode , cuz thats the only mode I can really do anything in. Thanks for any help you might have.
Basicly my desktop is all blue now. At firs I had my desktop icons and my taskbar with clock still on. But after I did a ctrl-alt-delete thing and tooled around and tried to delete the stuff that looked it the problem and then restarted, things started to get slow and then all the icons from my desktop dissapeared. What I forgot to reiterate in last post was , how do you connect to the internet to do a online scan or dowload updates or other software that can remove this Trojan from pc? Can I do it safe mode? Thanks.
if using xp than i think you can use safemode to get on the net. use either safemode or safemode with network to see if can get on the net
Okay I just tried that a while ago , I rebooted and entered safe mode with networking but it appeared as though I still can't use my browser though. I have netgear wirless card and tried to get on with that but the system couldn't recognize it. I'm a little at loss right now. I'm thinking of trying a total system restore to see if that does the trick. Any other suggestions? There seems to be alot fo ways to scan and even get rid of this thing, but there all on the net and so I'd have to figure out how to do it safe mode.
try system restore & if successful still do online scans & the proceedure to get rid of the virus as would be dormant
I just had this problem on a computer I had to fix, it was very peculiar in nature how it got there and even how it seemed to still be installed, but the worst part was this Antivirus Gold it is trash spyware and couldn't get rid of it had to reformat. I updated AVG downloaded Antivir and used it as a scanner without active protection seemed to work fine without conflicting with AVG I then updated Adaware and until it said it was clean then I loaded A2squared free edition updated it and ran it. What a hassle and this mess of Antivirus Gold was still on the desktop and the blue boot screen still showed "SmitFraud" infection that's when I reformated even though all scans were coming up clean.
