Hi, I am working with your log and I'll post you back soon ----------------------------------------------------------------- Hi again yeltur You don't have a firewall on your computer. Download one firewall and install it. These are good (free) firewalls: ZoneAlarm --> http://www.zonelabs.com Kerio--> http://www.sunbelt-software.com/Kerio.cfm Outpost-> http://www.agnitum.com Download RootkitRevealer -> http://www.sysinternals.com/Files/RootkitRevealer.zip Unzip it to a folder C:\RootkitRevealer Do NOT run it yet. Then: Go to Control Panel -> Add or remove programs -->Search WinFixer -->Delete if found Then, run HijackThis and fix this entry (if found): (Do a system scan only, check entry, close all other windows, press Fix checked) O16 - DPF: {F919FBD3-A96B-4679-AF26-F551439BB5FD} - http://locator1.cdn.imagesrvr.com/sites/errorsafe.com/www/pages/s... Then restart your computer into a Safe mode (Press F8 button when computer is starting an choose safe mode option). Make your hidden files visible: ->On the Tools menu in Windows Explorer, click Folder Options. ->Click the View tab. ->Under Hidden files and folders, click Show hidden files and folders. Delete this folder if found: C:\Program Files\--->WinFixer<---- Empty the Recycle Bin Make your hidden files invisible again: ->On the Tools menu in Windows Explorer, click Folder Options. ->Click the View tab. ->Under Hidden files and folders, click Do not show hidden files and folders. Restart your computer normally. Go to the folder C:\RootkitRevealer and run a scan with RootkitRevealer and save its log. Run a new scan with HijackThis and post its fresh log and RootkitRevealer's log to here. Then we can see if you still have that trojan crypt.t on your computer after the fixes made in your earlier topic.
Hi JaPK, Is the standard Windows Firewall not sufficient then? Have checked on my Control Panel/Security and it says it is on? Will try the method you have posted also...may get stuck though and have to get back to you as a few of the terms after a quick read are like a different language to my uneducated PC brain! Thanks for taking the time. Mark
You should install one of those firewalls that I mentioned earlier beacause they are much more better than the windows firewall. After you have installed that new firewall, you should disable the windows firewall because running two program based firewalls at the same time may cause problems. And yes, ask me if there is something that you don't understand
Hi again JaPK, Carried out the procedure you posted. Found WinFixer and deleted also deleted/fixed the line 016 - DPF etc. This is the Rootkit log. OK done all that and have now activated ZONE ALARM FIREWALL and the windows one turned off automatically when zone alarm was loaded. Look forward to hearing from you when you get a free hour or two! Regards, Mark
Just scanned with F-Secure and they are still there? Have taken a screen shot but can't paste it here? There are six in total all as before.
Hi again yeltur. Your HijackThis log is clean and that trojan crypt.t is gone You have installed F-Secure Antivirus to your computer? You have now two Antivirus programs on your computer. This may cause problems. You should remove F-Secure or AVG from your computer. Go to the Control Panel -> Add or remove programs and remove AVG OR F-Secure. (I recommend that you remove AVG especially if you have a paid license to F-Secure) Do you mean that you have scanned with F-Secure Antivirus or F-Secure online scanner? Can't you just post the results here? If you want to upload the results to here (screenshot) you can go to here -> http://www.imageshack.com and upload your screenshot and take that given link and post that link to here.
Hi very many thanks for that. I only run AVG as my anti virus. The F Secure was just a one off that the bank asked me to run prior to using an on-line banking site. Will take a screen shot as you said and post to the link in your message. If it's gone why does it show up still? Just tried that link far to long winded...Have posted a copy on FLICKr titled PC VIRUS..or look up photos by MARK RUTLEY. Will type two out long hand...the rest of similar... C:\sytem volume information\restore{1EBB711B-E77F-4CD7-9F4D-E140FED6A 6D8{\RP144\A0049052.exe Trojan.Win32.Crypt.t AND also C\Window\system32\shmprivs.exe Trojan.Win32.Crypt.t (PHEW!)
Ok you are rigth, it is still there but it is not active just now. Lets try this: 1. Download eScan from here and save it to your desktop -> http://www.spywareinfo.dk/download/mwav.exe Doubleclick to file mwaw.exe (on your desktop) and unzip the program to its default location (C:\Kaspersky) Close the eScan window. Then go to the folder C:\Kaspersky and run a file called kavupd.exe. It will update the program. (If ZoneAlarm alerts about connections to this program, allow those) When kavupd.exe has finished go to the folder C:\Downloads and press CTRL+A (Select all files) then press CTRL+C (Copy) and go to the folder C:\Kaspersky and press CTRL+V (Paste), overwrite files when asked. 2. Then you must disable the system restore, instructions here -> http://service1.symantec.com/SUPPORT/tsgeninfo.nsf/docid/2001111912274039?Open&src=sec_doc_nam 3. Then restart your computer into a Safe mode (Press F8 button when computer is starting an choose safe mode option). 4. Make your hidden files visible: ->On the Tools menu in Windows Explorer, click Folder Options. ->Click the View tab. ->Under Hidden files and folders, click Show hidden files and folders. 5. Delete these files if found: C:\Windows\System32\-->shmprivs.exe<-- C:\Windows\System32\-->umdspmsq.exe<-- 6. Then go to the folder C:\Kaspersky and run a file named mwavscan. Check these options: Memory, Registry, Startup Folders, System Folders, Services, Drive -> All Local drives, Scan all files Then press Scan Clean button. 7. When scan has finished, copy the results from the field in the scan window. Just copy those with your mouse and paste and save those with the Notepad to your desktop. Name it to viruslog.txt 8. Empty the Recycle Bin 9. Make your hidden files invisible again: ->On the Tools menu in Windows Explorer, click Folder Options. ->Click the View tab. ->Under Hidden files and folders, click Do not show hidden files and folders. 10. Restart your computer normally. 11. Post the eScan's results (viruslog.txt) to here. 12. Now you can enable system restore.
Hi JaPK....carried out your instructions and found first of all the two files shmprivs.exe and umdspmsq.exe and deleted them. Then ran the mwavscan which took 4 hours! Have tried 3 times now to either past the virus text log here or copy and paste it here no joy though it just freezes this site...even tried saving it as a word doc and doing it that way but it is masssive. Had a look and could not find any of the files above. Will run that F Secure free scan and see if it picks it up.
Ok, that is great. I forgot to mention that eScan can take some time , but it is a good scanner. And don't try to post that log to here anymore, it seems to be too big to here. And yes, run a scan with F-Secure so we can see if they are now gone. (I think that they are)
Hi JaPK YES they are gone according to F-Secure. I will keep that mwav.exe for future use although slow it's obvioulsy very good. Any idea where that Trojan would have orginated from? Thanks ever so much for all your patience and help with me. Don't know how you guys do it but I hope you got the satisfaction there of helping me out. Thanks again. Mark
That is nice to hear Yes eScan is a good scanner and remember to update it before you start scanning in the future... That trojan, there are many ways to get a trojan to computer ...you may have for example downloaded something wrong or maybe it came trough some vulnerability...but it is gone now You are welcome
