    Hi,

Until recently I've always used Maxell DVD-R 8X for making back ups of my kids movies. Last week I had to purchase some Dataware DVD+R 8X (as that was all that was available in our town). I purchased a new pack of the Maxell today and I keep getting a "bad media" message on CloneDVD.

PLEASE HELP!!! What have I done?? and how do I fix it!!!

    Thanks.

    Hi tophee99
Maxell uses some different manufacturers so these may be from a different manufacturer. Look for made in Japan when buying Maxell.
What's the make and model of your drive? Firmware? You may just need a firmware update.
In Clone you can find this info on the last screen (see pic the firmware is next to rev. for this drive it's 1.02)

editted to add: Using the latest CloneDVD also - 2.8.9.9?

I checked the package and it is "made in Taiwan".

    I have a "Sony DVD RW DW-D22A.
I don't know how or where to find the firmware!!! Can you tell me please.

    There is a rev BFS1.

    I"m so lost.

The BFS1 is your firmware version.
You may have the latest one. Looks like this is an oem drive that came with the pc. To check and see if there is a newer one you would need to check the maker of the pc's site.

What burn speed are you using in CloneDVD?

    I've tried burning at 16X, 8X (the usual speed I use), 4X and 1X.

    Nothing works!!

Why would Verbatim work if Dataware and Maxell won't??
    (pardon my stupidity)

The DVD burners out there some are good some are junk before you make a bunch of costers and spend a lot of time on a BAD burner buy a new burner and try to burn agin my friend just fried a burner buy using it to much without letting it cool down between a bunch of burns you know your tires on your car only goes so far before you get a flat Just because you own a dvd burner dose not mean you'll get a 100,000 miles out of it. At the piice you paid for it .I hope it was cheap .You can find out real Quick buy a new burner. since you were burnnig before and had no problems now you do Guess what

Your drive may not like the those new Maxell or the Dataware you are using. Before you buy a new drive try some Verbatim or made in Japan Fuji or Sony. Quality media that is compatible w/ alot of burners.

You can also try this - have CloneDVD make a ISO image. In the pic above it's the middle option under 'output' method. Then try ImgBurn to burn these files.

    @rbrock
I do alot of burning and haven't burned mine out yet - one is over 2 years old. So it can depend on a lot of different factors.
I see you still have the legos ;) with your Sony - never solved?

hi tophee...was wondering if you have dvd decrypter? if you have dvd decrypter you can start that program and place a blank dvd in the sony burner and it should give you a disc id in the right hand corner...would please post your dvd id? it would help in tracking where and how your dvd was made..holla

Since you have decrypter you can also use that to burn.
ImgBurn is a burning program by the same developer as Decrypter.

The Dataware though look promising - TYG02. To make sure they are genuine TY (Taiyo Yuden one of the best) look around the inner hub - you should see this GG00xxxx (the x's represent #'s). if you do you have the good stuff.

Now those Maxell's - yikes! CMC - one of the biggest problem causers. Me I would try and exchange them.

    Keep us posted!

Ok dump them - I'm not surprised they fail - try the Dataware. Check for that code around the inner hub too (see above)

Binkie i still have the sony i use it for a read only i picked up a pioneer 111D it burns just fine I have A TDK thats 3 years old (single layer) burner that works great What I posted about bad burners was kind of like how long do you beat the dead horse. So when you get alot of error messages when you burn its just a round about way your pc is telling you your burner has craped out. Nothing last forever!

Oh I agree about the dead horse bit but sometimes replacing the drive doesn't fix the problem. Other parts of the pc may fail and can cause the problem too. Process of elimination at times.
Looks like you solved your lego problem :)

the disc should burn it may be a bad disc and won't play but it will burn
But if it won't burn it could be the burner try burning a picture disc or a mp3 disc see what happens
