sooo i baught a liteon dvdr/rw and have attempted about 4 times to copy a dvd but to no avail it works...i use DVDshrink and currently Nero Burning Rom 6. 6. 1. 4. and...well i dont know whats wrong..i had a friend who has the same burner and his works fine. the DVd is analyzed and copied or encoded(whichever is the right term) it will burn the DVD...and when i put it into the DVD player i have it doesnt read..and niether on my DVD player/rom on my CPU. now when i put it in the drive...it reads it as it is when i put the normal DVD in...but it doesnt play. what i did notice is at the bottom left under details(win xp sp2) is that under File System: it says CDFS and when the original DVD is in..it says...UDF... as you can tell im a newbie...and like completely puzzled..so help please?
hi make sure that you have the latest firmware installed for the drive. also make sure you are burning to quality media (like verbatims or taiyo yueden) you can find a list of reccommended media here - http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/240341 cheaper media can cause problems with back ups - also it is recommended that you burn at 1/2 the drive/dvdr speed ie- if you have a 16X drive with 16X discs burn at 8X what brand of discs are you currently using? here is a link to firmware updates, you will have to find your specific model - http://forum.rpc1.org/index.php?sid=41c6841234cf8e530d1e51c0b088d690
currently they TDKs that burn at 8x... but my friend burned using those and they worked fine...so ya...and im checking the firmware too heres the disc info from Nero.. hi sorry i am no expert with those reports, i have looked at it & cant see anything obvious, i did notice that your firmwar has a newer update which is not installed you can get it here - http://forum.rpc1.org/dl_firmware.php?category=4&manufactor=17 try this to see if this helps if not maybe someone else can see something in your log.
i just tested my burner to see if it was my burner itself...but it burned a CDR just fine...and the CDR company is..TDK as well...so now im going to try the firmware update...although my hopes on this are kidna shabby because my friend can burn...and he doesnt have the firmware update and we have the same things on our computer and we used the DVD shrink..so its kinda ehh. the only difference is..i got the latest service pack..he hasnt updated his since he instaled win xp
@Ataris9 One thing to remember about TDK is they use different manufactures - so you may have one manufacturer and your friend another. Some TDK manufacturere are decent - some are crap. Try the firmware update. The log that you want to post to give us the details is located here: program files>ahead>nero>nerohistory.txt Copy and past one from there. @Ataris9 I guess I'll just say it - you hit the jackpot on crap media!!!! CMC - Eck! That one is nothing but problems - even if they burn they degrade and/or have playback problems! So my answer to using higher quality (would be anyhow) is YES Taiyo Yuden or Verbatim. The firmware may help playback & slowing the burn speed to 4x may help also. But the discs are still poor quality anyway you slice it. So you if you want that back also uninstall nero - run the clean tool and reinstall 6.6.0.18. do i find these like at best buys and stuff? or do i gotta go online for thme? ok and another problem would be that my DVDrw drive is external no IDE cables are connected to it...its done by usb2.0
@Ataris9 No external is fine - CMC is the biggest factor here. Online you can buy Taiyo Yuden & Verbatim from: http://supermediastore.com Great place - I use all the time. In store you can buy Verbatim or look for Made In Japan only Fuji and Sony. Check the dvd media forum - there's usually a post there weekly on who has what on sale.
well i looked into the DMA thing..and the screenshot on the guide said there should be something that says "DMA: on" and i dont got that...so iono??
This is for your dvd rom drive - not the external burner - your's probably has the current transfer mode to PIO. You need to change that to DMA.
@Ataris9 If you use this drive to read dvd/cd or if it burn cd's this will speed it up quite a bit being in DMA mode. Let us know how it turns out w/ better media or how the fimrware update and reduce in burn speed turn w/ the CMC. Oh and btw - supermediastore only ships to the US and Puerto Rico.
do they work on your pc or a different dvd player? it may be your dvd player. some cant play dvd-r & some cant play dvd+r.
probably is your dvd player. some will only play one format i.e dvd-r or dvd+r. you could try a back up on the opposite format to what you tried to see if this works. if not then maybe your dvd player will not play dvdr. if it is your player not playing dvdr then you you can get a cheap dvd player in walmart or target for about $30 or $40 that will play anything you put in it (won't play pepperoni though lol). let us know how you get on.
hmmmmmm????? the disc is ok because it will play in other players, i know some dvd players do not like some brands of media, but the el cheapo players (in my experience) play anything, the only thing i can suggest is to try another media brand & see if your player likes that (might be worth buying a few deifferent brand single discs to see if they work) i dont know what else to suggest?
