I've been trying to make a copy of a home movie that my brother made. A friend of his did whatever it is that has to be done to copy it from VHS to DVD, and then I ripped it to my hard drive with Shrink and used XMPEG to convert it to mpg. It worked great, except that I've only got two of the three hours converted, and I don't know how to get that last hour.

When you first put the DVD into a player to watch it, when the menu opens up it's split into two parts there, and as of right now, I've got only the first part converted. I can't find the IFO file for the second part, though.

Did I do something wrong when I ripped it? Are there supposed to be two separate IFO files for both parts, or have I a messed up somewhere along the way?

    Thanks.

Do you mean make an exact copy to a dvd. If so there is no need to convert it to an mpg file.

Yes, I just want an exact copy, but I can't get the copy to play on my dvd player for some reason. I don't know ANYTHING about what I'm doing (in case you couldn't already tell haha). All I know is I saw somewhere that the VOB/IFO/BUP files need to be converted before they're recorded to a new disc, in order to make it playable on a standalone.

The dvd that my brother has plays, but when I tried copying it and sticking it on a DVDR, it wouldn't play. So now I tried the conversion to see if that would work, and it has, at least for the first two hours.

First see what size the video_ts folder is on your brothers dvd. If it is 4.38 gig or less you can make an exact copy without compressing. If it is more that select "full disk" at the top of the page in shrink and automatic compression. When shrink is done the folder with the vob/ifo/bup files are already in correct format. Go to what ever burning program you use and add the video_ts folder. I don't know where you saw that the vob/ifo/bup files needed to be converted. I think what it meant was that an mpg needed to be converted to vob/ifo/bup files in order to work. Let me know if this doesnt help.
