Hi, guys. First time poster. I've already burned many DVD-Rs using DVD X Copy Xpress. My question is how can I make another DVD-R copy using one of the copies I previously made? Any help is appreciated.
Can I politely ask why you'd want to make a back-up of your back-up????? It is actually illegal in most countries to make copies of Copyright protected meda - however it has been shown recently that fair use is allowed. What's been recognized as fair use? There are no clear-cut answers, but we do know that making a personal back-up copy of content you own - for instance, burning a copy of a DVD you own is considered fair use. If a DVD is damaged, for example, a user should be entitled to own a backup copy. Making back-ups of back-ups to sell etc is considered piracy.
I would be very interested if you could paste me a link so I can read about this "fair use". I am in the UK, a link to a US site would mean nothing to me, but obviously to other members. When i read the copyright screens on my uk DVD's I often wonder if I am even allowed to watch them!!!. Thanks in advance. _ _X_X_X_X_X_[small]Why are The Samaritans always engaged?[/small]
Not that I encourage piracy, but to give a simple answer to a simple question, you can copy non protected DVD-R (when you copy a DVD to a DVD-R it become non protected) to a DVD-R you can use any CD/DVD copy software. Roxio,Nero,Pinaccle,Decrypter... you name it. Now copy responsibly.
Thanks for the replies. First I'd like to say that I would never dream of pirating movies and selling them. Not that I have any morals, mind you, but I am much too much of a scaredy pants little girl to try anything like that. I am always amazed when I see people online selling copies, particularly copies of obviously copyright protected items. One of my original DVDs, for which I had already made a backup, got damaged while we had company over. This led me to attempt to make a new copy from my backup DVD-R, which I had originally made using DVD X Copy Xpress. I started up DVD X Copy Xpress as usual and inserted my copy, but the start button would not go green and thus would not allow me to proceed to the read process. To help determine whether I simply had a bad disc, I then tried to copy 2 other DVD-Rs and in both cases came to the same unfortunate end. Any ideas?
hi jweissen If im not mistaken,x copy leaves a watermark that makes it unable to copy using x copy. You should be able to burn a image with the burning program you have i.e. nero, roxio, etc. Then you can burn this image back to your blank dvdr.If you dont have another burning program, then your can rip it with dvd decrypter, in the iso read mode, and burn in the iso write mode. You can do a disc to disc copy but your asking for errors that way. dvd decrypter is free download link:http://www.afterdawn.com/software/video_software/dvd_rippers/dvd_decrypter.cfm an easy to follow users guide for decrypter:http://www.dvdshrink.info/dvd-decrypter.php Ya gotta love a girl willing to admit she has no morals lol good luck and welcome to the club jim _X_X_X_X_X_[small]you should never take life too seriously....you'll never get out alive!! procrastinate now...dont put it off till tomorrow if you can read this..you dont need glasses.[/small]
i just checked that link i gave you after i posted, sorry thats for the file mode but you can still use that just go to mode and as i said before click iso read to rip and iso write to burn(unless your hard drive has fat32 files) ok here i finally found the right guide:http://www.dvd-guides.com/guides.php?category=dvdcopy&name=decrypterdvd _X_X_X_X_X_[small]you should never take life too seriously....you'll never get out alive!! procrastinate now...dont put it off till tomorrow if you can read this..you dont need glasses.[/small]
Thanks, jim_dandy. The instructions and link that you posted for the dvd-decrypter guide worked great! Maybe now I can start working on my morals!!
hi jweissen Ok im glad to hear you got it worked out. nahhh dont work on the morals,i like you just the way you are!! lol blaze on jim
Hiya jweissen, I probably sounded a bit harsh in my original post - not intended just trying to weed out the pirates if you know what I mean? The whole fair use thing is fairly wide open I guess - now me for example - now that I've got the copy thing happening ok - I'm making a set of discs of all our kid friendly dvds for my children to use.......I'm still distraught over my original Bridget Jones' getting scratched! Having the kid's copy and my back-up copy stored safely away - well I would consider that fair use. I mean who could live without Bridget, Shallow Hal and XXX???? Makes me wonder though - what would happen should the copyright police stumble across the spindle of discs sitting on my other desk......would they consider 3 copies of a movie too many??? Probably......until they get half way through the disc and the freezing and jumping and starting and stopping begins. My dodgey burns as I call them. OOOOhhhhh it sends a shiver up my spine at what they could inimate from those discs. I don't throw them out because we hang them in the fruit trees to stop the birds eating the fruit. Anyway yep .....DVD decrypter ISO READ/WRITE is a pretty easy way to go about it.....or if you have CopyToDVD or Nero you can also do the same. In Nero, open up SmartStart, then hit the configure button (middle at the bottom) and enable all types of media. Then choose DVD at the top, and the back-up and copy menu. Chose copy disc in Nero Express and then you can either copy "On The Fly" or to HD first. Talking of Nero - does everyone realise that if you click on the little people in the lower left button you can change Smart Start from Simple mode to Advanced Mode???
