I have a 5 yr old Gateway Pentium 4, 1500 mhz with 1.3 gig of RAM. I'm using Microsoft 2000. I recently bought and installed a Sony DRU-830A. It comes with NERO 7 Essentials bundle. I tried to play regular DVDs in the drive and the sound skipped, there was no color -- only gray images with green rectangles moving across the screen.

I spent 3 days trying to debug the problem but I'm stumped. I'm wondering if I need 2 gig chip for it to work right.

Does anyone have a solution to this problem?

I assume you are using ShowTime to play the DVD. Make sure you have the DMA on for your drives. It will at least help, but faster processors seem to work better.

Of course, I have no experience with Win 2000 and Nero. The following link does not exactly go with your situation, but I thought you might see something to help/
