Hi I recently purchased the Liteon 16x external burner(SOHW 1673SX) and although it gets the job done, its very slow in burning movies, upwards of 2.5 hours using Nero at 4x with buffer level jumping around. I read in another forum that I may need to update my firmware. After finally finding it(I went through probably a dozen broken links first) I saved the file, unzipped it, and went to run it. However, it completely freezes my laptop everytime I open it, can't even press ctrl/alt/dlt.

Am I just doing something completely wrong? Any insight would be greatly appreciated, thanks!

While you are trouble-shooting the firmware issue another area you may want to check is to see if you have USB2.0 instead of USB1.1. You may also want to check to see if your DMA is turned on.

thanks for the replies, I did try Liteon's website originally and their link is still broken. LABOY I'm not sure what my DMA is and how to check to see if its on, but I'll search to find out how. thanks again
