a friend recently bought their 1st 1080p LCD - got the hd cable box, but can't get a hd signal - a guy from the cable company says it's because the wire that was ran in his house is RG59 coax - i always run RG6, but this is a older house - is it true that you can't get a hd signal with RG59? i haven't been to the house to diagnose the problem yet, just going off info the uneducated homeowner told me that the comcast cable guy told her - any info would be appreciated

Try tuning to channel 2.1 (or 2-1), or the local PBS station plus a ".1"

I call "shenanigans" on your cable guy. I have RG59 where I am and I get HD from my cable provider with no converter box just fine.

Did the cable company hook up the box? The STB needs to be connected vis HDMI, or component for the TV to display HD.

Good info. Disregard my post. I miissed the fact that there was an STB.
