Hi guys, its come to a point where my CRT dell screen is about to die as every so often the screen becomes distorted so i set about looking for a new screen. I wish to buy a Widscreen LCD monitor around 22 inches but im so confused over which one to get any guidance for which ones are the best to buy, it will mainly be used for watching movies, video editing, programming and playing games. I hestitate to link another forum, but the extensive user reviews here are invaluable in learning about the quagmire of the LCD panel market. http://www.widescreengamingforum.com/forum/ There's a lot of less than perfect stuff out there. Even reputable brand name companies have used LCD panels from two different sources (with two different quality levels)in the same model display. Do a LOT of reading before making a choice. After extensive reaserch, I end up with a Samsung 215TW. I am very happy with it. I use it mainly for gaming. For me it came down to two Samsungs, the 215TW, the 225BW, and a Viewsonic that I can't recall the model #. The glossy bezel turned me off to the Viewsonic. The 215TW was the more expensive of the two Samsungs, but it had more features than most others. The 225BW was one of the models I had read they had used the two panel makers with, so I didn't want to take a chance with it. Due to some negative plubicity about panel switching, I think Samsung has now stopped that practice with their newer models. CRTs are a mature efficient disply technology with lots of flexibility for different media. LCDs and all the other new TV display methods out there now are unproven rookies with very little track record. Choose carefully. And if you plan on using Windows Vista at some point in the future, make sure you choose with that's HDMI complient.
emmm before i was looking at the samsung SM225BW and SM940BW but ill do some more research into lcd monitors. Do you know any sites that compare lcd monitors?
You can try Toms Hardware and anantech.com. There are others, as well. Google is your friend. But I would take a healthy dose of the user review at the widescreen gaming forum, and mix them with any formal review site before making a decision, especially if DVD watching on your PC is a priority.
