I have recently reinstalled windows xp home edition to my dell inspiron 600m laptop and now i am having trouble with the display adapter driver, the standby button is grayed out, and all the video drivers i install do not work. I am not sure if all these have to do with the same thing, but i think they do. I have read many threads on what to do i have tried the following:

Going to dell website and installing drivers (i installed random ones not sure which one to choose, I chose BIOS, chipset, and some others i forgot the names)

I have tried to run safe mode on the computer

    Installed direct X 9.0

Whenever i go to Control Panel --> Display --> Settings --> Advanced --> Adapter all the adapter information shows is <unavailable>
And whenever i go to Control Panel --> System --> Hardware --> Device Manager
the only yellow "!" that pops up is for M-Systems DiskOnChip 2000
Also when i go to run and enter "dxdiag" under the display tab it shows n/a for manufacturer, Chip Type, DAC type, and Approx. Total Memory. My current display mode is 1280x1024(32bit)(1Hz)

If this helps any or if there is any other information you need to know please ask and thank you
