Trouble with menus and extras using DVD Shrink

Hello - I have successfully used DVD Shrink to copy DVD's except for one problem. I cannot get the menu's to work properly when viewing the copied DVD in my DVD player. I have to page thru like they are chapters in the movie. I try to select the chapter but it will not allow me to. The movie I am backing up is Matrix Reloaded. As I stated, I am using DVD Shrink to rip the movie and Nero 6 to burn it. How can I get the menus to work properly?

    Thanks for your help.

When you re-author using Shrink the menu will not work. Not much to be done for that. I did the same movie using the same programs but just did the main title only. You could try DVDclone and AnyDVD to compress and burn the whole thing. Compression may be a bit too much though. There are some other programs out there like TMPGEnc that lets you create menus but I just usually end up with the main movie only, I don't watch the extras more than once anyhow.
    Good luck,
    Frank

Thanks fasfrank... I figured there was nothing I could do in DVD Shrink to get them to work.

Hi mlhannig, DVD shrink is such a cool program too! I hear Mr Shrink is working for Nero and the new version of Recode is going to be like Shrink on steroids. :D

One more problem with DVD Shrink. When using the guide from www.simpleguides.tk it says to just uncheck the unwanted streams and click backup without reauthoring. When I do this, it errors out everytime around 50% - 55% completion of the encoding. Do you need to re-author everytime or should the guides way work. Am I missing something here?

    Thanks for your help.

I find it easier to re-author with the parts I wish to burn, elimate unwanted audio and then backup. 100% success so far

Hi mlhannig, I own SimpleGuides.tk and want to clear up this problem.

    Which guide are you using?

There are two guides for DVD Shrink, one for backing up DVD9 to DVD5 and one for re-authoring DVD9 to DVD5.

When Shrink has finished analysing your DVD, you will get to choose the extra, audio etc that you dont want to be included on your DVD.
This is the best method to use if you want to keep the DVD menus etc, but if you only want the movie and 6channel sound (Dolby 5.1), then you should re-author.

If you need any more help, please contact me through simpleguides.

    Thanks :D

I've also found that when using DVD Shrink to copy everything on a disc, to not compress the menu's but compress everything else. The one disc I compressed the animated menu's on, the transitions came out choppy.
