I have both DVD+R DL and DVD+R empty discs. I'm having this weird problem where I try to add videos on a project that are much smaller than the required size of the disc, yet the bar at the bottom of the Nero Vision page says my videos are too big and won't fit in the DVD. I have 2 videos that run a total of about 3 hours (about 180 minutes). Together, they are 1.36GB, yet they're too big to fit in a 8.5GB DVD+R DL of 240 minutes. I also have a bunch of episodes of a show that isn't on DVD. Each episode lasts about 20 to 25 minutes. In theory, in a DVD+R 4.7GB 120 minute disc, I should be able to fit about 5. Yet, I can't even fit 4. After 3 episodes, it's apparently too big for the disc. But the 5 videos in total are about 100 minutes and only about 870MB, clearly within the disc's limits on both size and time. I'm wondering why in the world am I having trouble with this?
Well first off, DVDs are rated in Bytes, not minutes. Secondly your 1.36GB file is probably an AVI, and authoring it to DVD makes it bigger. Third, you are using a really crappy authoring program. Nero can do a lot of things but doesn't do any of them really well. Try using FAVC or DVD Flick.
I would disagree. Nero may not be the best author program, but does a great job quality wise as well as creating menus.
Isn't that what I just said? To me, at least, getting a proper sized and quality encode is more important than the menus.
My problem is not the transcoding by the way. I keep getting screwed during the burning process. All the files are always successfully transcoded. But for some odd reason, the burning fails. At first, I was given a freeware to help my burner. The first time I used the burner after I downloaded the freeware, it worked. But after that, it kept failing again. Then I was told that the best DVD+R DL disks are Verbatim. I bought them and used them. But the process kept failing. My DVD+R disks at 4.7GB have yet to fail. But I don't want to put 3 episodes a disk for a 17 episode season. I checked my DVD Burner and it says that DVD+R DL disks are on the list of disks I can burn on with this burner. I'm clueless.
