What error message are you getting? you sure you got a Null modem cable, also have you installed the USB adaptor driver?

Its telling me flash update failed.

I have a null modem cable (I know its ok as I used to flash my old boxes on a very old cpu that had a com port). Now I have a new cpu so I bought a usb to null modem cable conector, so I have the null modem cable connected to the starview then conected to the female rs232 which connects to the usb (which I have assigned as COM1)

with the USB adaptor pluged in when you go into device manager at the side of Com ports click on the + you say in there its asigned to com 1 if so when you run the UFL as your using 6.01 have you set that to 1 if so providing your cable is fine it should be working,

    Failing that,
try turning your box off at the back using the switch then press download on the loader then turn your box back on.

John for what its worth, would i be right in thinking you are using VISTA ?? as there seems to be ongoing issues with this system, reading your posts you seem to be fairly up to scratch on the workings of your PC... would it not be easier for you to go to a mates house and download everything from that?? this would save you an awful lot of hassle!!

Agree des, I have vista ultimate but I have fitted a PCI serial card so no need for the USB adaptor, before presuming the cable is at fault do as des says and try it on an older pc preferably with XP, best of luck!
