DVD+RW disk error, trying to recover video We are using a Sony (DCR-DVD403 NTSC) handycam, we recorded some footage and the disk has become unreadable on the camera or the computer. Nothing was changed or adjusted since the recording was made, we have never had this problem before. The information is just not viewable on the camera or on the computer. Is there any way to recover any video information if the disk has become corrupt? I was able to extract the file folders from the DVD+RW disk: DCIM, VIDEO_RM, Video_TS. Each folder has .BUP, .IFO, .VOB, .BUP, and .DAT files, but I am unable to view any information. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!
click the .VOB that is the videos i also think .dat is too but needs converting is the cam old? how big is the .dat file/file's? i used to have a free converter for .dat but quailty isnt good .dat i think used to be part of VCD movies, on CDR not dvdrs. ----------- get VLC player free off google to play video files
did you try to rip the RW to the hard drive of your computer? see if that helps? Also make sure the disk is clean... no smudges or finger prints .... if it has scratches then you'll have to try to use other methods of clean your disk.
if you have all the files and none errored on copy to hard drive, you can make a new disc... if not you only need the video .VOB's i would say, but bit concerned what the .DAT file is? how big are all the files?
I clicked the .VOB file and I get a message from windows saying "Windows cannot open this file:"so I go to select the program from a list. I am unable to locate a program that can view that type of file. So I try to open that file with Media Player Classic, and the video time is "00:00/00:00" the scroll bar is at the end and the status bar says Paused. I press play nothing happens. The Camera is about 2-3 years old. I figure the disk might be the problem because we reuse the same disk various times although it has no noticeable scratches. Other disks seem to work just fine with recording and replaying. The .DAT file is 1,024kb the other files are 30-66kb An engineer at our office does the on site construction footage, and I usually load the video to our computer directory, So I don't know how long the actual video might be. I have MediaCoder, and have used it before for another project to extract readable dvd video content and transcode it for online use, but I guess I am still too green to figure out how to force any files from this disk to work. That or the video content is just lost for good. Although it is frustrating to know that the video was working before it was handed to me, and all I did was connect the camera to the computer to transfer and it stopped working. Weird... sounds like it didnt copy across ok just copy the .vobs to pc and use VLC player to view how many .vobs do you have? if a few did you try them all as some coul be menu only...
