trying to work out how to install firmware on a slim psp(have i got my facts straight)

ok im thinking about getting a psp slim and getting custom firmware on it

but all the guides are confusing me slightly so i was wondering would this work

i buy a slim psp from a shop
buy a datel tool slim battery
get a pro duo memory stick

use the slim psp to convert memory stick to magic (slim) memory stick
put datel battery in
use these in combination to get to upgrade to new firmware

so if i did this would i be able to run emulators and isos off a psp memory stick?
and is this method correct (im not gonna get a psp if all im gonna do is brick it

ALSO i dont have access to a fat psp with custom firmware

#1 do i NEED tool batery if i do all those steps?
#2 does it wor w/ofw 3.80?
#3 silver psp is slim right?
#4 comes with the files needed but do i need to update in order

 

an easy way to tell if your psp is a slim is if you have to pull open the back to place a game in, the position of the speakers is also different, do a google image search, the model number for the slims is psp-2000

I'm in the same situation trying to figure everything out. So to create a Pandora mem card I need a spare? Or is it something that I can just install on my main mem card?

 

TIPS: (im a noob too, so this should help)
1) You don't really need a SPARE memmory stick. You can always convert it back to normal.

2) Use either the datel tool battery or a battery that you've converted to pandora's.

3) If you boot to your normal XMB when you stick the service/pandora/datel battery in, try putting it in holding the L button. It should boot up to pandora's menu.

4) If you make your own Pandora's battery, remember to backup the original serial, or you won't be able to convert it back to normal.

5) Remember to disable custom themes, if you have any applied.

6) You can also tell if your PSP is slim by looking at the left edge of the psp. Slims DON'T have a wifi switch there (its on top). You should only see the memory card slot.

Btw, i'm not sure about using only the fat battery. Can anyone confirm it works with slim batteries?

modding fat psps is so much easier.. this is why I don't want one of the new slimmer ones, no matter the improvements they've made

 

both are easy to do. it's that the fats have the 1.50 kernel. but doesn't matter that much since homebrew are being created in the 2.xx/3.xx kernel.

slim has the advantage on battery power. both my fat and slim have the same iso speed and the 2200mAh battery, and the slim gets 1-2 hours more.



to the TC, it's best to have a separate memory stick and use it as the magic memory stick. that way, you will have the TOOL battery and magic memory stick for backup. all you need is a 256 or a 512.

 

Thanks! I would like to stay away from modifying the battery and my main mem card for now, I think I'll just buy a modded battery and a new mem card. The Pandora/Datel battery works as a normal battery as well right? I need a backup anyway.

I'm putting it all together now I think, my main problem is that most of the guides are geared towards the fat psp and I have a slim, so it's like trying to pick out little nuggets of info here and there

 

No... the datel tool battery doesn't work as a NORMAL spare... As far as sum1 in this forum told me. But you CAN use it, by turning the psp on with the AC cable first, then plugging in the battery.

 

oki now (well i think) have a pandora memory stick im waiting on the bat in the mail what would happen if i tried to use the mux 2.0 w/o my tool battery?

and .. do i need a folder named music video etc etc etc ... cuz they wer deleted

does any of the current cfw's have all the stuff ill need to play iso/cso? or emulate nes/snes?

 

After you're done unbricking or installing the CFW on the psp, you should format the memory stick using the psp (if you're going to use to for normal use). Thats when all the other folders will come back. If you're using a separate memory stick to make pandora, then you don't need to.

You can run iso's/cso's... but to play emulated games, you'll need to install the homebrew them selves. As in... you need to install separate EMULATOR homebrews to play SNES games. Best o luck!
