    Hi,
I'm new at this, so I will just explain. My CD/DVD r/rw all of a sudden stopped working. My computer recognizes the drive but it does not recognize the Disk at all. I am not getting any error or caution messages, it just wont work. I took it out to see if it was spinning and it wasn't. I do not know what to do. I have read a previous thread on this same subject, but nothing has been working so far. Before this happened I was burning a lot of dvds, and something may have ended because I found my nephew on the computer with the Task Manager box on and the tab was on Processes. I am on a gateway running XP and the drive again is a TS-H552D. If anyone can help, even just to diagnose the problem please reply.

Can you make a backup of your firmware and upload it?

    http://digi.rpc1.org/mtkflash.htm

Backing up the firmware with Mtkflash:

Use this command line to make a single file binary backup of the firmware:

    MTKFLASH # R /B /M anyname.BIN

Where # is the port number as above. Choose any file name uo to 8 characters. This file will be
written to the same location Mtkflash is, make sure the floppy has enough free space.

If need help let me know. Once you have the bin file I can also show you how to upload it.

Looking at your other thread, it would appear that the burner that you and sum1sson have, is junk. I would talk to Gateway about getting it replaced.

Also, did you let sum1sson know why you asked him/her to upload the firmware?

You don't. It has nothing to do with your problem. Nobrainz wants you to do it, because he messed up his drive by flashing it with the wrong firmware and wants to get the original firmware, which you have. It isn't available on the website.

I would have thought that he would have told you that.

I just answered nobrainz post and I'll give you the same information. If it's still in warranty RMA it. It's not worth the trouble and you get a new (different brand) drive. If you're not in warranty you can try any one of the other Retail firmwares at http://www.cdrinfo.com/Sections/Firmware/SingleModel.aspx?DriveId=969

To recap, the drive is trash and there isn't much you can do other than get a new one.
