So, everything has been fine with this drive until yesterday... I've been backing up DVDs like mad for about the past month, and every DVD came out perfect. I use Apollo DVD creator. I also torrent a bit, I'm not sure about the rules on talking about such activities, so I'll keep it short. This morning, I was trying to create a Data DVD with Power2Go, my primary burning software. I was backing up a non .iso file, just a normal Data DVD. The dialouge box appeared, and the progree bar and all that. The drive initialized, and the disc began to spin. However, it began to make an odd whirring noise, as if it was spinning too fast or something. Then is stopped, then started again. This sent Power2Go into a non-responsive state, yet the drive light was blinking. After ending the Power2Go process, I went into My Computer and tried to manually eject the drive-- to no avail, this made my entire machine non-responsive. This is the first time I encountered this, so I decided to try to burn a .ISO with PowerISO, and again the drive made this sound. However, PowerISO sis not lock up, and gave me the message "The Disc You're using is full." I tried again and again with several different DVDs, and always got the same response, and I know they're blank. The drive can read CDs and DVDs still, and to my knowledge can still burn CDs, what is going on? I've searched high and low for help on this, now I need a personal response, please help me!!! So sad...
Have you tried burning data to a DVD? If that doesn't work, then the drive may be going belly up. Uninstall it, in Device Manager, reboot, and see if it works. If it doesn't, drop-kick it out the door, and install a new burner. They are relatively inexpensive.
My only concern is that CDs will still burn, thee thought passed my mind that it may be going to the great junk-pile in the sky, but eveything EXCEPT burning DVDs works fine! It just doesn't make sense to me...
Well wouldn't you know, it worked. Thanks for your help, for reference, what do you think the issue was?
