Every time I put a disk in, the Nero show time starts up.

How do I turn that off?

    It's making me crabby. Plus
I cannot see that it even functions properly: the
inserted disk's title screen will come up but the play
    button would not activate playback.

When you installed Nero onto your PC you gave Nero permission to be the default player for DVDs. Nero is probably opening up all kinds of different things. Like mpeg, avi and so forth.

So what you need to do is reset that stuff.

This is how I do it. I'm assuming WinXP as your OS.

Start > Control Panel > Switch to Classic View > Folder Options
    OR
Start > Control Panel > Appearance and Themes > Folder Options

Select the "File Types" tab. Let the list load.

Scroll down to "DVD" then click to highlight.

Below the list, find "Opens With:" press the Change button and change it to a different program.

That should do it. You may want to scroll down and see what programs open other various file types.

    I'm lost.

Didn't find any dvd stuff in Windows 98SE.

Would a reinstall work with doing the options more carefully?

I don't recall giving Nero control over everything at
last install. Plus I don't want to change the program I
    want the function turned off.

What I did see a lot of is file types from Divx. _That_
may be what's taking over things. I never use these viewers
much so all this is just a new headache.

    Thanks for the reply.

A reinstall may work. Select the "Custom" installation when it gets to that point. That should bring up the options for you to choose.

There is no custom install for Nero. Where did you see
    something like that?

I'm noticing some other problems with this 6.6.0.12
(whatevs) version as well: it doesn't want to read a disk
to disk copy correctly and Nero Vision Express failed
to complete an .avi file I had done previously.

The media (dvd) used showed a 94 on the CD Speed test.

Upgrade Nero to 6.6.0.18; don't go for the newest version 6.6.1.4 it's buggy.

    That's Lon :)

I tell ya, I had the 6.6.0.18 but Nero Vision hung up
on an avi file from p2p that I had successfully
transferred previously under the new prog (6.6.4.0
    whatevs.)

I did not download the Nero Showtime and I wanted to
clear that out permanently using the clean tool.

What special instructions are needed to do this?

    @Lon

Most people will tell you to uninstall nero and run a clean tool. I just installed 6.6.0.18 over 6.6.1.4. Installer told me I was doing it and allowed me to. I have had no issues since doing it.

Well I have both installers on my desktop now.

I am making a new thread for a new topic which is an
    Error 16: no adapter message.

ASPI cannot be found. I have no idea how this happened.

I finally found where in the install you can turn off
programs starting up with a disk. It still does it.

Fortunately I have a backup drive I made before all this
    stuff started.

Nero Vision Express 3 looks different than what I have
seen before. It is not grabbing the .avi file I want
    to burn.

    So more problems than before.
