can anyone help me i need to know if there is a way to use my computer speakers with my tv , i would usualy just use the headphone socket but my new tv does not have this socket insted it has a audio input socket, does any one know a way that i can get around this problem ?
most tv's have an audio output these days in the form of two Phono (RCA) connections)and these enable you to turn the TV speakers off and maintain a variable volume output with the TV remote. If your TV has none your screwed, short of taking the back off, disconnecting the speaker wires and making your own connections of the speaker wires to your PC.

Well I found a brief spec list which stated it had an "optical output" This is a digital audio output capable of stereo or dolby digital 5.1 surround sound. This is a type of fibre optic cable and they are good. I have one between my DVD player and my surround amp. You will ideally use a surround sound amplifier with this type of connection from your tv although I believe some PC sound cards have optical in and out but they are high end cards. My advice would be to buy a surround sound system for your living room but be careful of the "All in one" systems that are a DVD player aswell (unless you need a DVD player) because many of them will only support an optical output. You need an optical input on the surround system.
i was thinking of buying a suround sound system but thought they all came with dvd player which i dont need (ps3 blu-ray). so any system with a optical input is ok
I think the PS3 has an optical audio output aswell so you might want to look for a surround amp with two optical inputs. (optical cables & connections are also known as "Toslink". Surround decoders/amps also come with co-axial audio inputs. These do the same job as an optical connection but are completley differnet. One other thought Im having (depending on your budget) is that since you have a PS3, it will have a HDMI output. This will also carry HD audio formats I assume. (not sure what the PS3 specs are). Therefore, If you bought a surround amp that had a hdmi input, and could do True HD audio then you would have even better sound whilst watching bluray. (the optical cables (toslinks)can't handle the HD audio formats but are fine for 5.1 dolby digital and DTS). The trouble with surround amps that can do HD audio is they are the high end stuff like Onkyo and they also are huge, like an old valve amp and do not sit well underneath a modern minimilistic & slimline flatscreen set-up most of us have. You need to have a look at a shop called "Richer Sounds" which will be much better than thumbing through a retail catalogue or general high street.
