i recently tried to backup two for the money with dvd x copy and it was unable to copy because of CSS. then i tried dvd fab decrypter it ripped the entire movie [is thier a way just to rip main movie], then i used vob blanker to try to delete the bad cells which didnt happen and i still have the same thing that i had when i first ripped it with dvdfab...and also this movie has VTS_01_1 - 5.VOB.These files are all the same size. 1,048,248 kb. Which ones do i know to add to nero.
Does your version of XCopy browse? If not there's a couple of options you have, but you'll still not be able to do some of the newer movies. You can use AnyDVD and run XCopy as you normally would. Some new releases cause compliance problems and that will stop the method just mentioned. If you can browse, then I suggest ripping the entire DVD to the hard drive (HD). There you can open the files in XCopy and use it to edit for movie only. Didn't it have a viewer for seeing what was in selected files? With a ripped file on the HD, if you run into compliance issues, just run the entire ripped file through FixVTS. I've been using AnyDVD + DVD Decrpter, or DVDFab Decryter (alone) for ripping with good success. With FixVTS, uncheck the boxes and drag the VIDEO_TS VOB from the VIDEO_TS folder onto FixVTS (with boxes unchecked) and click Full DVD. Copy the backup out of the folder when you go to burn.
yes i can browse with xcopy but i just dont know which files to use when i browse, uncheck and check. im using fixvts and i think i may have figured out something. thanks. argh..still made a lot of files and i dont know which ones to add i know its the larger files but theres more than usual like i burn before..
Try following my directions. I don't use XCopy anymore, but just using it to transcode doesn't make a difference from what many others use. That is unless you're having XCopy issues. Getting a clean rip and having it compliant is the main ingredient for any good backup. Transcoding and burning is the easy part. If you're editing in XCopy, look at the largest file. Click on it and use the viewer function. Some of the later versions of XCopy included a user manual, Adobe Reader was needed as it was in PDF format.
Instead of burn, you would want to browse to the newly created Video_TS folder and open it in XCopy. Remember, you needed to copy the backup outside the Video_TS folder, so that all you're opening in XCopy is the compliant VIDEO_TS files you just created. If that doesn't work, get a download of DVD Shrink and use it or another transcoder of choice.
Well this is what i just did. I backed it up fine supposedly. I didnt watch the backup yet just skipped through all the tracks and it looked good. First I used dvdfab to rip it to my hard drive. Then i used VOB 2.1.0.0 to fix or delete the bad cells [ for some reason it basically ripped the same thing again on my hard drive, I thought there would be less files. Is this normal?] Lastly, I used DVDShrink to reauthor, and then I clicked Backup! and it burned it.
VobBlanker and FixVTS do pretty much the same task, only VobBlanker can be used to edit out particular files. When using it to process for compliance, it doesn't delete files, it repairs the structure so your software will read it as being compliant. When using it only for compliance issues, the size of the original and the processed files should be close to the same. Glad to see you got the job done. I was recently informed that AnyDVD is incorporating FixVTS or something like it in their software to address compliance issues for the heavily protected new releases. In fact it's already in beta and should be released as a stable version soon.
