    Hi Ya'll,

I'm gonna apologize up front. I'm computer savvy, but DVD dumb. I hope someone can point me in the right direction first.

I create DVD's out of AVI files. I upgraded from XP to 7, Nero 9 to 10. I think this is when all my problems have started.

I have two issues. One is the illegal disc problem. The other is whenever I play in a non computer DVD or Bluray player, I get a "Disc Error" message. If I get past the illegal disc error, I get the 2nd error.

Illegal disc problem. I've checked a lot of the topics concerning this, and it seems I need a log file. I'm not sure where to find this. In addition, it doesn't happen all the time. I can use the same NRG file multiple times and come out with different results, although a working disc is not one of them.

I have two DVD burners, the one in the laptop (TSSTcorp TS-L632H) and an external USB HP DVD840. I am unable to locate any firmware updates for the TS and HP's website keeps timing out. Maybe when I get home, I can update that one.

I'm using the same DVD-r (Memorex) as I've been using for the past two years.

I don't even know where to start on this one. :(

I appreciate any help ya'll can provide.

    Timothy

try verb or ty disks as memorex disks are not made by memorex so quality can be iffy.

I don't mean to be disrespectful or unappreciative, but that's all that can be offered?

It just seems weird that these problems started with my upgrade to Win 7. I've been burning with Memorex for a few years. I would occassionally get a few bad discs in every pack of 50. But surely not every disc from many batches could be that bad to cause the problem every time, right?

I really do appreciate any help.

    THanks,
    Timothy

can you try nero 9 again instead of 10 to see if a nero issue or if win7 is causing the problem?

DDP, the Nero 9 is installed on my wife's Vista machine. I can give it a another try in a week. Her Vista came preinstalled on the laptop, so I'm pretty sure her's is Vista compatible.

Badbak, as for my laptop, according to Microsoft's upgrade program, my computer is compatible. I'm using Nero Vision for my encoder. I get defragged once a week, and currently sitting at 0% fragged.

I bought Nero 10 because of this problem. I had Nero 8 installed on my Win 7, and then installed Nero 10. Maybe I need to wipe computer and start fresh?

Also, last night, I used CloneDVD to copy some VOB files to the same discs. This worked and disc plays fine.

    Thanks for the responses.

Initially, loaded over. I figured it would install over like most other programs.

    Then, I removed Nero 8.

Then, I removed and reinstalled Nero 10.

Okie. That was mostly not fun. I'm using Nero 7, not 8. The two cleaners I found, one from Nero, another from somewhere else, didn't clean anything. I had to manually remove. Three hour process and I think I got most of it. Registry healer cleaned out a bit more too.

So I reinstalled 10, and I was able to create a disc. It burned well, and played in a standalone. :)

I'm gonna try one more disc to make sure that wasn't a fluke.

    Thanks for the help. :)

I didn't know TSST was Samsung. Thanks for that Berryone.

I think I found new stuff for the standalone. I just need a few moments and energy to get it done.

You can try the complete uninstall and then manually clean out your registry and computer. That did work for me. If you're not that good at it, a fresh wipe never hurts as long as you back your computer up.
