I just got my first batch of 16X TY DVD+R, been using 8X. I am burning with IMGBurn and Sony Dru710A DL drive. I tried burning at 16X but the speed never got up there because it slowly rose and the burn finished with the speed at about 15.2X. Is this normal. I am burning the .iso and set the bit type to DVD-Rom, don't know if it matters but i thought the more info the better. thanks...
Fredo2121 that is very normal. that is actually a good speed you got out of them TY's how is the play back on it?unless you have a overburn firmware or smartburn(for liteon) utility that will let you burn up to 18x. i doubt you will get it to burn at 16x with imageburn alone. imageurn will slowly take the speed up as it is in the burn process. it wont just jump to 16x speed and stay there. i had 100 of the 16x+r hub printable TY's i found i got great results burning them at 12x, with image burn.same with clonedvd2
no need for more speed i just was wondering if that was normal since the 8x got up to speed pretty fast and remained there.
if you burn those 16x @ 8x you will see they get up there in speed fast also. but it is nromal for image burn to so to say take its time when burning at the faster speeds. it makes sure you have enough power in your system to burn that fast. it is actually doing you/me/us a favor by not trying to burn it that fast from the start. we all would have coasters cause of this... no need to worry your drive isnt bador anything liek that it is normal
i would say yes its software. i just did abounch of burns with 3 different types of 16x media. i set them to burn form 12-20x speeds.at each setting they never got to the set speed but right under it here is a link to what im talking about with imageburn.. http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_jump.cfm/540688/4090847 ive burnt 100+ of those 16x+r TY's id say maybe 30 of them i have over burnt them and not 1 time did they reach the so calledset burning speed.
It's really not the software "adjusting" the speed of the burn. The drive (f/w actually) dictates the speed at which the software will burn the "image" or "info". The software wants to burn it as quickly as possible but the "limiting" factor is the drive as I've said. The media will "limit" the speed of a burn to some degree. NORMALLY the "top" rated speed of the media will limit the speed of the burn but if you have "modded" f/w for your drive it will "help" the drive achieve more speed during the burn. On my 18X and 20X drives the highest they will burn is about 17.5X and 19.3X respectively.... NOT that I want to burn any higher but sometimes the drive will just "kick" back the speed to "save" the disc or burn.... I've seen it many times while testing. I very seldom burn something higher than 12X. NO need really and the quality you get at 12X with my burners is more than Ok.... Hope this clears some things up. ....gm
