I have been using these for awhile now along with the glossy verbs, and the printing looks outstanding, havent tried to see if the TY is waterproof like they claim, see no need to take the chance.
I just ordered two 50 packs of these Ty Watershields from Rima.com. #31.00 each + $7.14 ups ground ship total $69.14. That's a better price than what I paid for them a year ago. It is true that the outter edge even at 120mm will remain somewhat white due to the fact that the ink does not adhere well to the very edge. Even so, to me they make the best looking backup. I tried the glossy Verbatims and they look great too and no white on the outter edge but they are no match for the Ty's. They have no protection from water at all, cost more, and there is a note in the fine print on the packeging that tells you not to put them in a binder as the finish can stick to plastic binder. I believe that as a week later the finish still has a sticky feel as though it never completely dries properly to the touch. They have a very smooth finish but are not quite as glossy as the Watershields. I always use 20mm inner and 120mm outter with the Ty's to minimize the white edging.
I'll probably stick with these TY watershields. They make the Matte finish verbatim and maxell look totally crappy. Being dash, that's the only drawback to them. I can live with that small 1/4 mm white ring. I also don't want to test them for their waterproofing, LOL.
Any of you Ty Watershield users been running any scans on those backups? I just ran 1 and scored a 94. Way under par for me. Here's one burned at 8x: Still a near original quality during playback. I may have to fish around for the proper burn speed for them.Hopefully solidburn will kick in after some more burns. I picked up a 100 pk for $65 to split with a buddy.Supermediastore.com had free shipping last week and they were delivered very quickly. My covers look better than the originals.
meritline.com has a store wide 10% code until 1-3, plus free shipping on a 50 pack. I got a 50 pack for a little under $36 shipped. Code is: SW10POFF http://www.meritline.com/taiyo-yuden-16x-dvd-r-water-shield-white-inkjet-printable.html
Does anyone know when or if Taiyo Yuden are going to start making Dual Layer disc. My primary use for the DL discs are for Xbox 360 backups, but I want something to look like the originals or better. Or does anyone know if there are even any Glossy DL discs out there and what name brand? Just need something close to Verbatims playback quality, and these discs print quality put together. Also does anyone know if they are going to make this disc in a Dual Layer ever? Come on TY start making DLs!!
Does any 1 know where I can get Epson Generic Ink for my R260? Mertline is out and so is supermediastore.
can't tell if they are in stock or not. http://www.shop4tech.com/user.htm I tried rima.com for you, but they are out of stock there also.
Only 1 of my sources has generic ink for the Epson Stylus Photo R-260: http://www.bidabit.com/mm5/merchant...ode=bid&Category_Code=EPSON-STYLUS-PHOTO-R260 $27 per set. I'm not sure who the manufacturer or store reputation. They had great prices for individual carts for my R200 and R300. Good Luck Edit: Read the fine print. May not work in printers made after June 17,2007. Be cautious.
Thanks for the link. Are these genuine epson or generic. This picture looks like the real thing. I only ask because I currently use "G&G" brand generics and they have been working nice.
I haven't tried them yet. They do have some decent prices for individual carts for my R200 and R300. Looks like they got some great reviews. G&G is what I've been using the last couple years. It's very good ink and I haven't had any issues with them. My used R300 arrived with some Handsome ink carts,so you may try googling Handsome Ink and see if they carry it for the R-380. They seem to be as good as G&G.
Hi saugmon, did you manage to find a solution to that 1/4 mm white ring on your TY's? And what's the complete name of those? Cause, I googled a bit and found a possible netshop here in Sweden; Taiyo Yuden (52141) WATERSHIELD White Full Face Printable 16x Speed DVD-R (50 TUB) http://www.dvdmarknaden.com/SE/Catalog/1876.html Are they the right ones that you use? Another question, when you print them for how long do you have to wait until the dvds are dry and ready to use?
There really is nothing that you can do to get rid of the 1/4 white ring along the outside. But yes those are the right disc. When it comes to dry times, honestly I have printed on the disc waited about 1 minute and then burned with no problems or vice versa. These things dry QUICK.. almost immediately, but to be safe some people say wait 30 minutes to a hour.
Lillijan: I searched a lot of places and nobody can get rid of the white outer circle. We'll just have to live with it. They are very noticeable and the photo quality is superb. They do dry quickly with my generic ink. If someone desires the glossy look, there's only 3 options that I'm aware of: 1) Ty watershields, but only in the dash format 2) Verbatim Glossy: Individually packed because they will stick together, and not waterproof. 3) Spraying their discs-after printing-with a clear lacquer spray like krylon.Patricia Nomak? is another spray that pops up for some members who sprayed their backups.
The taiyo yuden watershield are totally amazing. Not only for burning. The quality is just as nice as photo paper. I just started using them lately. It's more expensive than regular printable disk but cheaper than having to buy a thermal printer to get such beautiful pictures. I found them at this store in Laval, Canada. http://www.blankdvdmedia.com/products/Taiyo_Yuden_16x_DVD-R_Watershield_White_Inkjet_Hub_Printable.php I went to pick it up at their store. Also bought some ink for my Epson R300. I have yet to try the ink though.
Ty Watershield, glossy full hubs are in my opinion the best single layer printable disc available. If anyone is looking for the best looking hub printable Double layer glossy media that also is water resistant and is DVD+DL as well without the white ring along the outside then there is such a disc. I have tried them and they too look fantastic. The print quality is slightly better than the Watershields if your wanting to preserve a dual layered backup. They are reasonably priced for a dual layered printable disc at around 1.77 each. I use the Ty Watershields for most of my backups but once in a while if too much compression is needed I will opt for the MBI Aquashield + dual layered glossy hub printables available @ GenesysDTP.com 8X MBI Double Layer 8.5 GB AQUASHIELD White Inkjet Hub Printable GLOSSY DVD+R's.
