I have read the countless posts where AD peeps recommend media types such as "Taiyo Yuden" "Verbatim" "Maxell" and then within each of these types there seems to always be certain 1's that are junk(fakes) or Good types. Can someone point me in the right direction or help to clarify how to tell which media types are the "correct" types and which 1's are the "junk" 1's ?? I have been to Supermediastore.com and have seen some Verbatim DVD's and some Taiyo Yuden DVD's but I cannot seem to find where they will say that they are made in Japan or Hong Kong or list a certain "MCC003" or whatever is supposed to designate them as "Quality".
P.S. Can someone also help me in the Size of DVD as well? For instance, some media come in 4x only or 16x only.My burner is 16x max speed and most are saying to burn at 2.4x or so to avoid all error's or the like. Should I stick with 4x speed and ignore my burners listed max rating? Or go with max speed and then downsize according to size of files?
@Uugah, Yes, ignore the burner speed recommendation of 16x, I always burn @ 4x or less. Buy great media (Taiyo Yuden 4x or 8X, Verbatims, Maxells, and even Sony's). Based on experience and learning from the group at AD. Good luck! MovieDud
@uugah the 4x 2x ect.....those arnt the size of the disk those are speeds to write to them the size of most dvds is 4.7 gigs ..unless there doal layer disks but those arnt in production are they?
If you want Taiyo Yuden with no doubts, order it from Rima.com. Great media, great supplier, can't recommend either one enough!
@david thanks for that lol i just orderd 200 dvd-'s lol they should liek give you money for reqruiting me lol
I get Fuji & Sony DVD+R 8x made in Japan (NOT Taiwan). Just look at the label for "made in Japan". Those are the best DVD+R you can buy. The media code is YUDEN000-T02. I also have some thermal printable Taiyo Yudens, which are the same except the Fujis do not get fingerprints on the top.
just buy from a REPUTABLE dealer and you will not have to worry about the "good ones" and the "junk ones"... the manufacturer codes are found using a program such as dvdidentifier or dvdinfopro...all the talk about manufacturer coding can be confusing when you first start out, but people here recommend certain "brick and mortar store" bought blank dvds that they have checked the coding when they got home and found to be produced by a certain manufacturer, you learn from experience how to spot the good ones from the bad, and over time you make a decision to know which media works best for YOUR OWN personal setup. i suggest the Taiyo Yuden and Verbatim as so many others here do, but just make sure to buy from a REPUTABLE retailer, then all your worries about "fakes" and such will be eliminated from the equation if you need further assistance regarding TY or Verbs, i can help you determine if you have authentic ones or "fakes" immediately (ie. if you have some right now that you are uncertain about)
@ palidin hi : yes you can buy dual layer media.(Ritek dvd+r dl ..1x-2.4x rated speed 8.5 gig capacity)
Thanks again for all the replies.....I guess here is what im concerned about: If I go to rima.com and look at the Taiyo Yuden DVD's they list various 1's with different manufacturing codes. For Example: Product #1733 = Manufacturer ID : YUDEN000T02 Product #1736 = Manufacturer ID : TYG02 I know I have read in this forum that the 1's that have "TY" are assumed to be the fake 1's? Is this correct or am I just reading to far into all this?I just wanna get some good media so I can make sure my burning process is 100%.Thanks
Is +R format is -R format Go with the format that your burner uses, some burners only burn +R. If you have a -/+ burner then you can use both. The -R format is more compatible with older standalones then the +R. It does not matter which format you use if your burner is capable of bitsetting the +R to DVD-Rom, which fools those standalones that do not accept +R into thinking it is a -R.
