i have u torrent and i have noticed that when i run it, it slows down my internet!
i know its surpossed to but thats not it though!
u torrent downloads at roughly 20-30kpbs and it takes me about 10 seconds to load yahoo
but when im downloading something from ares at 60kbps it seems to download yahoo faster.
i know it sounds strange but can any body tell me why u torrent is slowing down the internet?

Even though your download speed is slower the torrent program is still working harder. It's always looking for more connections and that is what is taking up the bandwith.

Perhaps not as slow as you are experiencing but it still will be slow. It depends on many variables.

This might be the answer to your questions:

A growing concern among ISPs has been that 60% of their network bandwidth is used for the BitTorrent protocol. This has led to an increase in cost for the ISP due to growing network needs. To remedy this, ISPs have been forced to take action in a couple of ways. Early adopters used a bandwidth throttling technique which searched out the BitTorrent protocol and intentionally cut back the amount of available bandwidth issued to users in the BitTorrent community. Although this technique seemed to relenquish some of the burden for ISPs, paying customers were outraged and demanded action.

Heres a few tips when BTing

1.wait 5 mins befor pancking about speeds it takes time to conenct and hash out connections

2.Not everythign on the sea of the net is fast soem thigns will be slow

3.priroize your downoads if soemthign you want NOW is going slow trying halveing its conentions and pause any other downlaods.

4.IF BT is going at full speed it might slow anythign else net wise down and if it has alot of connections and downloading it can slow your comp down some to.
