I have bought a Sony DW-U10A burner, which wont be installed on XP Home after physically attached to the computer. Windows simply does not recognise it's presence, or that any other hardware has been attached. No hardware install process is starting at all.

The unit gets power (the lamp lights up when XP boots) and it works in fact fine on my neighbour's computer, which has XP Pro. He has the same burner as I, and when hooking up mine on his computer, it works fine. He didnt need to install any driver.

I have tried all the different jumper setting, to no effect. The cables are attached properly.

If Windows doesnt even recognise it's presence, it wont help to get some new
    drivers, will it?

Have you go it as the master drive on the IDE 2 channel with any other DVD ROM's, CD ROM's set as slave?
