Hey all. I just came across this link and it just cracked me up. Looks like they're really gonna get it. Just thought I'd share it with the rest of the crew. Enjoy: http://news.com.com/3+men+charged+in+Xbox+tampering/2100-1043_3-6003939.html?tag=nefd.top Evocre8r
nice. it is most likely the preloaded games that got them pinched. Just the chips or the installing of chips and HDD's i don't think would have as there are way too many places that do that and never get bothered.
Thats what I thought, but then I read this: http://news.com.com/5208-1043-0.html?forumID=1&threadID=12550&messageID=96598&start=-1 EVOCRE8R
i can sell my xbox to a friend tomorrow if i wanted to even if it is modded they would just trick it out even more.i paid $235 for mine last year + $150 for the harddrive and the chip.i could easily get $400 for it if i wanted to but im not selling it.yet anyway.all the stuff was brand new including the xbox.
ummmm, it's all a bit vague is it not? I can see how a modded xbox itself could be illegal as the only way one can exist is because of stolen MS code, therefore all modded xboxes have been made by illegal means. But to say that these guys modded them with the intention of breaking copyright law??? Well fair enough, true, they knew that they would be sold to people who would 'probably' use them to copy games but my argument to that would be this...... Do the manufacturers of CD Writers, DVD burners, and every bloody blank CD or DVD disc on the planet know that 99% of what they sell will be used to make illegal copies of either music, movies or games? (1% used for home movies and original music, photos etc etc) OF COURSE THEY DO, so why are they not charged with the same thing?
xboxdvl2 Ouch, was that new. If so i guess it is not so bad. But i paid $150 for mine with the chip with everything you need preloadded (via SlaYer 2.6) Then i just replaced the HDD which cost me a bit ($199) but it was a 300GB HDD so i am ok for now. putting a chip in an Xbox and selling it is totally legal. That in itself will not allow the xbox to play pirated games. It is the BIOS that you flash the chip with that does that. So if they just leave that part up to you and flash it with the standard BIOS then there is nothing wrong with that.
i dont know what bios i have on mine but i can play pirated material and store games on my harddrive currently using unleash x dash.i was thinking about getting a bigger hard drive maybe 160GB.not sure yet.im know im gonna be backing up a lot more games on my hard drive soon.i just had an offer for my xbox the guy said hes willing to wait until i get my Xbox 360 when i get one.so probably end of 2006 i will sell my xbox then get an xbox 360 in the 2007 new year sales.
I might be selling one of mine too....(my red and black one)...prolly get a macmini. I need something else to learn, and since windows is so boring and (other than games) useless.
