After installing Soft key's Ultimate Family Tree For Win 3.1 95 & 97, on my Windows XP system.I get an Error Message - SYSTEM ERROR , DEVIDE BY ZERO OR OVERFLOW ERROR.- and the program will not run. I get the same error message even after re installing using the compatability wizzard. CAN anyone help get this program running on XP,as 3 years of reserch into my family is tied up on backup cds from my old Windows 98 PC which i no longer have.
Right click on the executable, choose "properties", click the "compatability" tab, and try changing the compatability to win95 or 98. My mom is a professional-amateur genealogist, so I have some experience with some of these types of programs. There's a standard format which that program should have recorded all the info in, I forget what it is. You should try Family Tree Maker and/or Brother's Keeper and see if you can import from there. Additionally, you can try to use Word, Excel, or Access to import the files as well, as they should be some sort of stratified database. If you've never imported something like .csv's into word, basically it asks you what values from the imported tables go into the tables in the new file, it's pretty easy to use when it works.
Thanks for the info but, I have already tried running under win 95 compatability and win 98 compatability but get the same error every time. I have just got FAMILY TREE MAKER 2005 but can find no way to import files. If you or your mother or anyone else can help with this i would be most greatful.
I did a google on "importing from ultimate family tree" and found lots of hits, here's one: http://www.familytreelegends.com/support/export GEDCOM is the thinger I was thinking of...and since UFT is from genealogy.com, i would assume it uses gedcom compatible files. Sorry I'm not more help, but I'm sure it's possible.
Thanks again. After reading your last message, following your advice I eventualy tracked down a patch for the DEVIDE BY ZERO ERROR and SOLVED yes SOLVED the problem .I got the ULTIMATE FAMILY TREE to run perfectly on XP and now I can access all my reserch. again many thanks I realy am GOBSMACKED !!!!!
