Hi everyone, I done few searches on here and have tried some of the tips to play burned DVD movies on few of my standalone DVD players. But no luck, it either displays, "Incorrect Disc," or the picture is flipping up/down showing in white color.

I have updated my DVD recorders firmware. Burned the movies in the following file types: UDF 1.2, ISO 9660/UDF 1.2, ISO 9660+Joliet/UDF 1.2. Used the following media types: DVD-R, DVD+R. I had also burned the movies using DVD+R by converting the book type from DVD+R to DVD-ROM. None of these worked.

My standalone DVD Recordable players support DVD+/-R, DVD+/-RW. However, one of my older DVD players can play all of the formats above. I've tried on my Xbox 360, and it worked as well.

I come to believe that the problem may lie in the media brand. One of the standalone DVD Recordable players can read a Panasonic DVD-R 1-4x . However, when I tried putting in another brand, like TDK, Fujitsu, Verbatim, it says "Incorrect Disc c105."

I did a check on the Panasonic DVD-R 1-4x supported by my DVD Recordable Player. The media code is TYG01 which represents the Taiyo Yuden. Doing a bit of research, Taiyo Yuden DVD medias are high quality and supported by most standalone DVD players.

Does anyone know other reason why my standalone DVD recordable players won't play my DVDs?

    +++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

I have tried checking specs on DVD movies bought from stores. They come in media types of DVD-ROM, and book types as DVD-ROM as well. These store bought DVD movies work fine on all of my standalone DVD players. Does anyone know how these movie companies burned their DVDs ? Meaning, how did they put a movie into a DVD-ROM media type? Or is it the case of using a DVD-/+R then, converting the media type to DVD-ROM?

Store bought DVD's are pressed not burned. Are you ripping the movies or are they from another source? You don't mention what programs you are using for your backups...

I've made an ISO from the original movie then burned the ISO into the DVD recordable medias. Software used for building and burning the ISOs are NERO 6.6.0.8, and Imgburn 2.1.0.0.

The original source contains an ISO 9660/UDF 1.2. Additionally, the original copy can't play on my standalone DVD recordable players as well.

Then it might seem that your standalone needs a good cleaning or chucked into the garbage....can you give the burned disc to a friend to see if they have a problem playing it? The Panny TY's and Verbatims have some of the highest degrees of compatability among standalones and burners so I don't think it is the media. You stated the firmware is current for your burner and that you are recording in IDO 9660/UDF...all should be good. How many players have you tried the copy in?

I've tried it on several. One in which is 4 years old and can play it. But none of my standalone DVD Recordable Players can play it. My Xbox 360 can play it as well.

I gave it to my friend and he couldn't play it as well. However, his DVD video made by a professional Video company can play the videos on my standalone DVD recorders. I forgot the brand, but it's a DVD-R media type, with a rated speed of 1-16x.

That's also the reason that led me in thinking the media brand might be the problem.

    ensomniac hi :)
i seems that LOCOENG has covered all the bases here

i would suggest that you post your latest nero log
and we will see if the cause is in the log

I'm using ImgBurn for most of the movies. But here's the Nero history log.

whilst its here i try my best with what we have got

not very good media i'm afraid

this showing all zero's indicates that your drive doesn't like/recognize your media the first part of the log would probably show why

you are trying to booktype a -R disc
this can only be done with a +R disc

not sure what this means. there appears to be nearly 2hrs of queue again.
perhaps someone else will threw some light on this for me

    hi :)
    right

your firmware is way out of date,(about 8 versions behind) which explains why your drive is having a hard time to recognise your media and how much data is on or being transferred.
you can get the new version 1.10 here

    http://forum.rpc1.org/dl_firmware.php?category=4&manufactor=38

i'd update to 6.6.0.18 which is the best of the 6 versions

your DMA needs to be on. this shows you how

    http://www.dvdplusvideo.com/dvdguide005.html

close more applications to free up more memory, you're in virtual memory territory
which means your hard disc will be 'swapping', therefore interfering with the burn.
you really need at least 256Mb of free memory
ideally you need another stick off at least 256mb added

the pc is very confused it does'nt seem to know if its a D/L or S/L its reading, but with the firmware update and nero 18 this should be cured

you've gone from rubbish media to utterly atrocious, these WILL give you play back issues. try TY's or Verb's

    see above

one other factor to consider is how much free HDD do you have
free HDD is a governing factor as follows
    this is only a guide
the disc you are copying to..........= 4.7Gb
    disc you are copying...................= 4.2Gb
15% of total for pc to do it's thing = 1.3Gb
free space needed.....................= 10.2Gb (or there abouts)
if it's a D/L then the amount needed increases dramatically
