Hi, I wanted to convert a certain asf file into avi. I have tried to do it using several programs which usually do such conversions, however non of them succeeded to convert that particular asf file. Hence, I would like to solve the problem by playing that asf and - at the same time - to record it with some program and saving the resulting recording as an avi (or other) video file. I understand that there are programs which can record things displayed on the desktop, however I am looking for one which enables to record only a particular video file displayed on the desktop without any other thing seen on the screen. What's the best program which can do that? Thanks for any help stibi
I'm not saying it's the best, and you shouldn't infer that either, but you can use Virtualdub. If you first install the directshow input plugin, Virtualdub can open just about anything. http://www.virtualdub.org/beta/DShowInputDriver-0.7.zip
Hi davexnet and thanks for your prompt response. Unfortunately, it doesn't work - unless I didn't do the right thing: I have downloaded the zip file, unzipped it. I have got 2 plugins: one for x64 and another one. I added the other one into Program Files> VirtualDub>plugins folder. Next, I have opened the VirtualDub and tried to load unto it the asf file. There appeared a message : "ASF files are not supported". The version of my VirtualDub is 1.9.9 Any suggestion? Thanks in advance stibi
instead of the plugins folder, put it into the plugins32 folder (create it if it's not there) Restart Virtualdub. File/open. Select the file. In "files of type" dropdown box, select directshow input driver. If it still doesn't work, rename the file to *.wmv and try that.
Hi davexnet, Halleluja! It works. Incidentally: Suppose it didn't work: If I played the asf file, is there any good program which could record that movie only (i.e. not any other part of the desktop)? Thanks a lot stibi
