i tried to install the modem manually but i received the same message.

Please try and help. Yes I have read the well documented tutorials here. I think they are great, but unfortunately to no avail.

I have a V220 and I get the same thing, "Windows was unable to install the modem" message. I have tried every method mentioned here, hidden device removal, registry editing of the usb keys and modem keys, uninstall mobile tools. Reinstall in the order everyone is describing. I try and let mobile tools detect and then it says trying to detect, and I see its trying diff speed settings but ends up saying time out. I manually select v220 and it says modem installed, but it just hangs at initializing. I then check device manager and their is yellow exclamation point over motorola usb modem. I enable it, cause its set to do not use the device and try to reinstall and Still nothing.

Then only thing that I can think is that I uninstalled Norton AV2002 in December, prior to that it worked. Keep in mind that I had to leave New Orleans for the Hurricane Katrina. So I have not tried the phone since August, it worked then. I try it in January and I get the Windows cannot install modem message. Like I said, I have tried the registry editing unde the Modem key in registry with start,tag,3,4,1 and its their and nothing.

One more thing, I did have to replace this phone since the one that was working died while I was evacuating. The replacement v220 takes photos with no prob. I even installed it my work under Windows 200 Pro and its works. I just cant get windows to recognize the phone modem here at home under winxp pro with sp2.

Please, if anyone can help a tired Evacuee, many thanks to you!!!!
