hi guys im new here sorry if this is somewhere else i have a poblem trying to load windows on a ide HDD the motherboard is gigabyte ep43-s3l. I know theres nothing wrong with any of the compenents bacsue it works with a sata HDD i just need to change it some how so i can boot windows any help will be much aprecited.
i get the blue screen of death and it doesn't stay on long enough to see what the error is. then it just restarts ive checked and changed everything to do with the hdd still won't work
get into the bios.. usually press delete while the bios splash screen is up.. basics.. real basics. set to boot from cd first.. then ide drive.. that allows you to install or run a diagnostics disk at boot... sounds to me like that ide drive install of xp is toast.
there is nothing wrong with the installation of xp the problem is that i have only 1 ide slot on the motherboard so i can only use one ide device cause the rest are sata. it probally help i someone has actually used this version of bios.
How can you possibly know there's nothing wrong with the install when you can't even get it to boot as for the BSOD assuming it's the IDE drive & if it is then xp is booting, press F8 or whatever your key is to get to safe mode screen you can disable auto restart from there As for bios they is all da same relativley speaking EDIT:Forgot to mention what makes you think xp will run on your machine does it already have xp & where did the install of xp on that ide drive come from, you haven't got it from another comp have you & think it will work by putting the drive in this comp
That's pretty much what I was saying.. the best policy is to boot a diagnostics disk or puppy and have a look at the drive and see what's up. One ide port means 2 possible devices connected to it. one cd and one hdd is usual unless you are like me and always have 2 disk drives and 2 hdd's. Until somebody listens I think we are wasting our time and should ignore them.
